Error - Can't run command "pwd"
« on: August 18, 2005, 01:56:10 pm »

After I connect to our remote Unix Box using Ice-Offsite and launch UCopy from DejaWin I get the error - Can't run command "pwd".  If I go back to the command line of the remote box I can run the pwd command and get the working directory.  The Error is comming from our remote box because after clicking OK the PC directory populates but the UNIX side if blank.  No changes have been made to the local PC the remote PC or the application, yet it has been working great for a long time.  Has anyone ran accross this error before?

I don't know what version you have but check and make sure the baud rates are consistent between the autodialer and iceconfig settings.

Sorry about that - we are using
ICE.Offsite 3.0
Deja VU v7.10a/32
UCOPY v6.
SetICE and Autodialer are set to 9600 and I still get the error.  If I put UCopy in expert mode and hit refresh then I get the error - Can't run command "cd".  It seems like a permission problem but when I go out to the command prompt I can run all the commands fine.  Thank you for your help, any other suggestions?

When you are trying to run ucopy you aren't in a unix program or menu, are you?? It needs to be at a prompt to do anything. If you are at a prompt, you could try something like this:

in unix type:
cat >foo

Startup ucopy

When it fails, go back to unix, hit enter then control-d

next do

cat foo    (without the >) and hit enter.

You should see at least 1 command ucopy tried to execute.

This is what I have done
Launch DejaWin - modem dials and connects to remote Unix machine
Login - successfull
cat > foo
click the ucopy icon on the tool bar
get the error - Can't run command "pwd"
click ok to the error
close ucopy (PC directory is populated but Unix directory is blank)
ctrl-d
cat foo - get nothing - just another $ prompt
ls -l foo - file size is 0

Is there a way that I can use the command prompt on the remote Unix machine to transfer the file?  I have tried typing
$ucopy u:[filename on unix] C:\[new file name on local PC]
but it just hangs until I hit ENTER and then it says Waiting....30 and then drops me to another $ prompt.

Check the permanent options settings in ucopywin. The baud rate should be blank OR set to the same baud rate as the autodialer and the dejawin settings. Preferably blank.

I'm running out of ideas. The process is pretty simple. When you click the ucopywin icon, Dejawin just passes control of the serial port to ucopywin which then simply issues the commands.

You could try writing down your settings, wiping the icewin.ini file in the windows directory and trying again. I don't see why, but perhaps an update to the current build would help.

I uninstalled Ice.OffSite from the control panel
renamed C:\winnt\icewin.ini to icewin.old
reinstalled Ice.OffSite
changed the settings back to what I had before.
Now it works.

Thank you very much for your help.

Wow, there must have been some corruption in your icewin.ini file. Lucky guess for me!
