Auto-login keyboard issue
« on: February 10, 2004, 10:00:02 am »

I have downloaded and am testing the evaluation version of Ice-Tcp Plus. Everthing works fine as long as I log into the host (a linux box) by typing in the login myself. If I check the "Auto Login" box and enter the login, I get logged in, but I don't get any response from the keyboard.
Everything else is working like a charm.

Thanks in advance for your help.

We discovered a bug in the autologin for PLUS. It's been fixed and will be in the next release (probably in a week or two).

Thanks for the report!

Bob,

Thanks for the quick response. I will watch the site for a new release. My company wants to begin rolling out the product we would be using Ice-Tcp Plus for in early March (with 200+ users), so hopefully the fix will be available in the time you indicated.

Thanks again,
Mike

Hello again. After a several month delay, our company has given me the "go" to pick up my project again. I downloaded the trialware, and am still having the auto-login issue. Is it possible that the trialware is an older version or has the issue not yet been fixed?

The "about" window gives me:

Build 24
Emulation version 7.10a/32

Please advise.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
It's fixed in build 25 (1.0.25) which I released to CD today. I should be able to get a trialware version up on the web site for you to try tomorrow.

Hi Mike,
Thinking about this for a while led me to believe the fix for autologin had been done for the build you are already running. Testing confirmed this.

There must be something else about your particular setup that is fooling the auto login.
I need to gather some more data from you.

Are you using telnet or ssh?
Doing the autologin from the settings in iceconfig or on the command line?
If from iceconfig, you have something in the login and the password fields I assume, anything in the command field?
Does your server use the normal syntax, i.e:
Login:
Password:

Bob,

You found the issue. The user logins for our application don't use Linux-level passwords. We have a generic login per physical station (i.e. terma) which takes the user into the application. The application has its own user ID's and passwords. I went ahead and assigned a password to the account on my lab machine and in your setup, and the auto-login worked fine.

Is there a solution for this other than using passwords? If not, it's a livable situation.

Thanks very much for your assistance,
Mike

I think the password prompt has to be there (I'll check tomorrow and tell you for sure). It can however just be a blank password (like hitting enter).

It looks like you do need to have a password prompt for the autologin to work properly.
