ICETCP Pro 5 Printing issue.
« on: February 16, 2004, 04:26:32 am »

HI,

HAve a print queue set up that has been running for years to an old ICETCP PC. Have swapped the PC over , installed latest PRO, set up printer setting on XP machine PC seems to retrieve the job from UNIX ok (print manager dispays the jobs with real print job sizes)
, the printer (dot matrix) acts as if it is about to print (head moves and paper loads) but nothing comes out, job goes from PC into thin air. HAve tried True PC driver, tried ganeric Text only. Switch on the old PC and it prints fine with the printer attatched. It has to be a problem with the XP setup or driver but has anyone an idea what??
Appreciate any suggestions.... ;)

What method of printing are you using (pass-thru, ICELP or LPD)?

Also, what version of ICE was on the older computer that works?

Finally, I'm assuming the dot matrix printer is attached DIRECTLY to the XP pc??

Hi,
Thanks for replying.

They are using 5.1.19 and the origonal version was ICETCP v4.  Using ICElp from UNIX > PC . I can get it working here without fail. The printer is directly attatched
(parallel) and prints a win test page ok. I checked the print processor from XP and it was set to winprint & RAW. It is as iff it gets to XP fine but prints nothing. AS i mentioned before , the windows spooler shows the jobs ok, (i.e not zero length). I know it's a 'could be a million things' kinda question but i just need some ideas fired at me.

P.S. Apologies for being vague regarding innitial mail.

Thanks

Ok so you are saying that ICELP from the old TCP 4.3.1 works but that the ICELP from the new PRO 5.1.19 doesn't, correct??

Correct.
Duplicated settings from old Pc & version on the new Pc & version and just get the printer initializing, thats it.
Obviousley i am taking the old PC off the network whilst this is done.

Ta.

Hi Bob,

FYI it is now working. I added 'tcpip Print services' as a running service and it now works, stange i know but it did the trick.

Thanks for taking out the time to give me a hand.

So you ADDED WINDOWS TCP/IP PRINT SERVICES and the problem for ICELP went away!

Sigh....
