Problem with new install of tcp pro
« on: July 21, 2006, 09:25:30 pm »

I just recvd my newly purchased tcp pro and am having some problems. I installed, uninstalled and tried install again to the same results. This is on a windows XP machine. During installation I recvd the following 2 errors:

http://www.arroyoc.com/ice_tcp_errorinstall_1.jpg
http://www.arroyoc.com/ice_tcp_errorinstall_2.jpg

Which I suspect are a clue to the runtime errors, the telnet pro runs, but when I type in a server name I get this:

http://www.arroyoc.com/ice_tcp_errorrun_1.jpg (server name has been blurred to protect the innocent  ;) )

Then if I try to create a new profile (with different terminal types, etc) I get this:

http://www.arroyoc.com/ice_tcp_errorrun_2.jpg (contents of server session have been blurred -- again protecting the innocent ;) )

I can "work around" this for now by manually changing settings every time I log on to a different server, etc, but clearly something went awry on this install!

Oh the version on "help" are:

Telnet Pro        5.1.26
Dejavu (OCX)        5.1.26
Network Toolbox        5.1.26
FTP Pro        5.1.26
FTP Pro (OCX)        5.1.26
FTP-Win        5.1.26
LPD        5.1.26
ICElp        5.1.26
UpdateWizard        5.1.26
ICElp Configuration        5.1.26
Version Information        5.1.26
Language Configuration        5.1.26

For the errors concerning the TelnetPro client, you are unable to write into your registry. This could be due to anti-virus software locking down your registry or incorrect permissions on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch of your registry.

The problems with licenseadmin are with the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE part of the registry. You must install PRO as a regular user, not a limited user. After it's installed and running you can make the user limited.

This is an an XP pro - on a laptop, there is no "users" just one user (me) who is an administrator. Haven't had any problems with other installs at all. I will try uninistalling - reinstalling, but first shut off my antivuris software and lyk what happens.

OK - so I uninstalled, verified that there is only 1 user on this laptop, and that user is a "system administrator" ...I disabled the norton antivirus, re-installed and same errors upon install as originally posted, and same errors when I run telnet pro

...what next coach?

Try deleting the J. River folders under HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software and HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE->Software in the registry and reinstall. If you can't delete those folders without changing permissions you have a registry problem. You can try the suggestions in the following post to delete them:
