pro 5.1 installing on xp pro clients
« on: December 30, 2003, 10:05:38 am »

I do hope that someone can help me ? !
I have tried all the below with the writes and permissions but to no avail.
I install 5.1 it then goes for a seq license asks to reboot great so i do, then log back in as admin and I still can not create a new session despite being domain administrator, even tried as local pc administrator to install, server is also updated to lates ver too.
This is only because I have to upgrade the old clients from 95 to XP.
Server seems to allocate a seq no but client is unable to verifie it.
Thanks in advance.

Are you certain that you installed with administrator permissions on the client?
Do you get ANY error messages when configwizard ran?
What is the error message you get when trying to run 5.1?

Check this message to give you the steps to go about finding the source of the problem...

Yes I am the administrator of the pc and the domain.
I have tried both.
the error I get when i run telnet 5.1 is
1. initializaing copy protection failed (3,0) please run config wizard.
2. can not create new session please run config wizard.

when I do it tells me that I have a valid seq No. otherwise no errors on configwizard.

I am sure I am missing something very simple I cannt see it.....
even made sure have full rights everywhere !!?

Ok. Are you CERTAIN that the error is 3,0 ? That doesn't show up on my error code list.

 8)

I have cracked it..
What happens is that the license info is put into the current_user part of the reg, all I did was then copy exactly that info into the local_machine in the same area and structure, and hey presto it all works.
Thanks for all your help and time in assisting me.

Good work!

What you found leads to the conclusion that you have mixed versions of the client and license server programs. The license admin server portion is back in the 5.0 range somewhere.

Ideally you should do a full admin server install on the license server machine and update all of the client machines by running the  user install from the new admin install.

Thanks for the feedback...
