VPN Dropouts
« on: April 11, 2005, 01:13:22 pm »

We have a multi-site setup using a VPN through Cisco 515 firewalls that keeps dropping randomly.  We are using ver 5.1.25, win 98, 2000 and XP Pro with SP 2 for the workstations.  Support mentioned keep alive settings, where are those?  What are those and what settings should they be at?  The connections drop whenever they want, not only during idle times, any ideas?

If the connection drops at any time while the session is active then you have a unreliable VPN tunnel. That is generally OK for web traffic but is a disaster for connected mode (i.e. telnet) traffic.

The keepalive setting (view->options) will keep a properly configured VPN from dropping an idling session but will not keep an unreliable VPN up.

Looks like you are going to need to have some conversations with your network provider(s).
