Shift + F8 Print not working
« on: March 21, 2006, 10:09:40 am »

We are connecting to an RS/6000 using IBM 3151 emulation. The version of the ICE Software is ICE TCP Pro v.4 32 bit.
When connecting to the Precision Vision software using the old 16 bit version of ICE the users can use Shift+F8 to perform a backgroud print. After upgrading to the 32 bit version of the software trhe Shift+F8 print function stropped working. Please help! The vender of the software is recommending that we switch a different Terminal Emmulation software...
Thanks!

I'll double check the key sequences sent but I'm certain they haven't changed. You should make sure your terminal type is exactly the same. 3151 should be set to 24 lines, 25 lines will confuse most aix installations.

Verified here. The 16 bit version sends the same sequence for shift-f8 which is:
esc !h ^M

If you have verified you are using a 24 line 3151, you should check to see if you had that key combo mapped to something else in the 16 bit version.

It is set to 24 lines, but we're still having the problem. I also verified the key map is the same as the 16bit version.

Is this key supposed to be telling the remote side to do a print or is it a local print screen function?

You can try setting the character delay to 1 as well. Also to verify what you are seeing:

First log into an account with a shell prompt.
Next do this command    stty -icrnl
Then do   od -h
Then hit the shift f8 key
Hit control-J
Hit control-D

You should see
^[!h^M
0000000 1b21 680d 0a00
0000005

You may not see the characters in the line above the 0000000 depending on your version of aix and the shell you use but you should see the same values in the 000000 line.

Check this in both the old and new versions, it's what I did here...
