« on: September 11, 2003, 01:30:08 pm »

Please read carefully before downloading.

This is BETA software.  There are still some known (and unknown) bugs.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 beta is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter9_1.exe

The latest build of 9.1 beta is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91250.exe

Please report only known problems in this thread.   If you want to discuss changes in the UI, please use another thread.

History:
1. Fixed: MC would allow grouping to be selected for pane columns that didn't support grouping.
2. Fixed: Skin manager would erroneously allow in-place editing of names.
3. Changed: Acquire image dialog no longer closes after showing an error like "connect camera and try again".
4. Fixed: MC would allow drag-n-drop in Media Library to tree items that didn't make sense / support the action.
5. NEW: Revised sorting menu and added loadable presets and album track # option. (instead of just "Revert to Default")
6. Changed: Default sorting now uses Media Type as first sort field.
7. Changed: Core drawing / buffering functions more efficient.
8. Fixed: Exiting from windowed mode could leave an orphaned taskbar icon on some systems.
9. Fixed: Small bug with TiVo protocol.
10. Changed: Upnp library allows multiple instances.
11. Fixed: Allow sorting according to TiVo's directives.
12. Fixed: Cover art through media server didn't always work.
13. Fixed: Tag Info item (toolbar and menu) was disabled when no files were selected.
14. Fixed: Installing MP3 Encoder (and possibly other plugins) would crash MC.

Action Window: If I have a file selected in Playing Now (the real one) and have AW open to show Tag Info, when I click on Playing Now's Artist Info node, the AW instantly says "No files selected". If I then undock AW, it goes back to displaying the tag info for the file I had selected.

Preferably this would work whether AW is docked or not.

Are the new loadable sorts customisable in any way?

No.  If there are no-brainers we missed start a new thread and we'll talk about them.

Thanks.

Bug:
1. CD Burning performance has gone south (sometime in the last 2 or 3 weeks of MC releases).  Now when I burn a CD using MC, my sytems crawls to a halt, MC uses 75% of the CPU during the burn and I can't listen to tracks in MC at the same time (too choppy/studdering).  Sounds like some 'fixes' to CD/DVD burning in the last few weeks went 'bad'.

Update:
Nevermind...the infamous Windows DMA / PIO Mode switch occurred on me...must have been during Win2K SP4 install 2+ weeks ago.  This hasn't happened in 2+ years and now I've got figure out how to get Windows to get back to DMA for my CD-RW drive...I know it's not easy....geeez!!

The WORKAROUND solution __here__ works (after 3 reboots...thanks MicroSuck).

MC doesn't seem to remember that I had it maximized from one boot to the next. I can't quite figure out exactly what causes it to forget, but a reboot seems to cause it.

One loadable sort that could be made better is Media Type\Artist\Album\Track #\Name.

Adding in Year in between Artist and Album will make it sort albums chronologically...

Scroll bar in the file window seems to keep disappearing.
I have to use the up and down arrows to make it appear again.

View scheme:
Panes: Hard Drive Location, Date, Country, Location, Events, People
Honour parent is checked
Filter:  [Media Type]=[Image]

On Thumbnails mode - I can post a screen shot if necessary.

1.- PN page in AW flashes a couple of times when browsing Media Library. Why?

2.-In PixOS skin, the playing now song needs more contrast (at least, in a TFT screen I cant say which is the playing song...)

3.- The menu that appears when right clickin a selection in AW could be improved (useful options are hided inside a meaningless item called "List")

4- Media Server is unable to repdroduce WMA files with international characters (αινσϊ...)

Tivo performance is the same, re: finding the Media Server.  It won't find it at all if the Tivo Desktop's beacon service is running.  If I disable that service and restart Media Server, then it'll find it, but only if I manually put in the IP addy.

Have you doublechecked that your burner's still connected via DMA and not PIO?  Windows loves to reset mine to PIO every so often for some reason.  I get the symptoms you describe when that happens.

Mentioned this a few weeks ago...

When using "Clean File Properties" when there's no year in the Date (year) field, it defaults to populating the field with "1899" whereas in builds prior to at least 234, it worked fine.

Thanks in advance for all of the improvements.

Changing focus in windows and/or openning some web sites change MC's volume output, yet volume slider does not move or display a different volume % value, also wave setting has not changed.  Yet there is an audiable difference like 4-6db roughly.

CD burning - divided a playlist into 4 last night and burnt 4 CDs in the latest MC9 build.

3 seemed to go fine, after I clicked "start" for #4 MC9 crashed out completely. Burnt fine after restarting.

Playing the CDs in MC9 later, the editable (?) CD text fields "artist" and "title" displayed fine for all 4 CDs but the track titles for nos 2 & 3 were completely corrupted, nos 1 & 4 being fine.

No difference in file types or anything else I can think of - except that nos 2 & 3 had more tracks than 1 & 4. Both had 28 cuts.

Is this an issue?

Hi,

Sorry - but I am still having problems with the cover art going via a media server.

Some of the problems are:

1) I'm not getting any cover art on the remote PC when I'm looking at video files.  The media server just displays a 'sending 404' message.

2) When I play music on the remote PC I am getting the cover art but not in any of the 'Track Info Templates'.  However, the 3D Viz is showing the cover art.

3) When I play music the Media Server is sending the cover art file 8 times (if you look at the Media Server screen).  I presume this is slowing things down a bit.

Thanks,
Mark

Suggestion:
1. A recent build of MC removed Play and Add to Playing Now from the MRU list on the right-click popup menu.  I think other entries on the right-click popup menu should not be in the MRU list as well, like: Delete, Edit Selected Item, Tag Info and Import Into Library.  Otherwise, like Play and Add to Playing Now, those items show up twice on the same right-click popup menu.

Maybe a serious bug:
Track Info Plug-In ( Version 1.0.28 ) crashes after it was once selected in Plug-In Manager. MC graphics get mixed up, MC crashes or has to be restartet.
1. Open Plug-In Manager
2. Open "Display" section
3. Open "Track Info" section
No matter what you do after that, as soon as "Playing Now" is displayed after that, MC crashes. If "Playing Now" was opened while selecting "Track Info" in the Plug-In Manager, MC crashes immediately.

Could you send me a log file of a burn session? Maybe I can figure out what's going on.

Thanks..
johnt @ jriver.com

Turn on MC's logging for CD burning by changing the value of this registry key from zero (0) to one (1):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox\CD Writer\Logger

Then just start up Media Center and try to burn a CD (you can leave test mode checked to avoid creating a coaster). Then exit MC and find a file in the MC program directory called "cdwriter.log" and email that to me. Remember that the log file is overwritten each time you start up MC, so you must send the file before restarting MC.

I get really frustrated with the longer wait time when playing an MP3 for the first time in MC 9.1.whatever. Here are the steps to reproduce.

1. Close MC.
2. Find an MP3 and double-click it (assuming MC is default for MP3s).
3. MC loads, and takes several moments for the MP3 to play.

Alternate method.

1. Close and reopen MC.
2. Double-click an MP3 from your library. MC takes several moments for the MP3 to play.

After the initial play, all files play instantly.

Another annoyance.

When I pause an MP3 and then double-click on a different one from the library, part of the paused MP3 plays and then it jumps to the new one.
