MC21 and Windows 10
« on: September 12, 2015, 02:21:57 pm »

Hello, I upgraded from windows 8 to ten yesterday and can not get MC21or MC20 to run. The program seemed to install fine but when I open it runs for about 30 seconds the crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled from a new download three times now with the same result. I have a Dell 8700 with an i7 processor and 16 gigs of ram. The video card is a Radeon X9 200 series. What should I do? I installed a new driver for the video card. Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like an antivirus problem or similar.

Should I remove the virus checker or turn it off?

I had similar problems
Uninstall /reinstall helped.
(make sure all drivers up to date including chipset) with amd it sometimes pays to go to the previous release and do full uninstall/reinstall of drivers (amd seem to have two driver dev teams in tick/tock mode i.e. New features - >  fix bugs - >  new featues...)

Also it seemed that wasapi driver choice in audio caused instability sometimes.   It is exclusive mode so can have problems if something else tries to make sound.   Direct sound driver will fix or at least confirm the problem.

Try disabling it, but removing it may be needed to know whether it is the cause or not.

AMD, unfortunately, can barely afford one driver team anymore.

OK, I completely removed McAfee from the computer, then reinstalled. Still the same problem. I got about a third of the way importing video's and it crashed. Just a Media Center 21 has stopped working and that the computer will check for a problem. What else can I try?

Try turning off auto import and see if it runs.

If it does, try importing a single file type or single folder.

Is there a NAS involved?  If so, try a test without it.
