Why JRiver takes over Volume Control- but not the Media Keys ?
« on: September 13, 2015, 03:43:13 am »

Hi Community,
i use JRiver since v19 i think but only if i have to most of the time i use MPC-HC + Windows Explorer.
You now may wonder why is that?

Its because i cant figure out how to stop JRiver from using my Volume Media Keys!

All music and playback programs i know of react  on all media keys except the Volume Wheel/Keys these only works for Windows Master.
But when i start JRiver it become totaly useless because it only works for JRiver than.

Summary: Other Programms:
-> Mediakeys: Working Global and out of focus
-> Volumewheel: works Global but only for Windows Master no matter what
              JRiver
-> Mediakeys: wonly working when Programm is in Focus
-> Volumewheel: works Global only for JRiver also when it isnt in focus

How can i change JRiver to work like all the other programs do?

sorry for my bad english :/

with best +DS_DV+

PS: Both Keyboards i tested had the same problem so i think its JRiver...

In MC's settings, there is a setting for Media Keys.

The option should be in:

Tools > Options > General > Advanced > Media Key mode

Setting that to OFF should disable JRiver from using your media keys at all.  Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

Ok when i shut mediakeys off i can use my VolumeWheel as im used to.

But than my mediakeys obviously dont work ...

Mediakeys should work global even if the program is out of focus only the volume wheel shoulndt be used.

Like VLC / MPC-HC / WMP / Media-Mokey and so many more.

JRiver is such a komplex and great program but i cant use it cause it fails at those basics for me :(

I would hate if the volume control stopped working when the app was not in focus. Why would they be treated any different than any other global media keys?
I can change track without switching to MC, but I cannot quickly change its volume? :)

ok something is realy strange ...

I like to get my media keys working when i as example play a fullscreen game and MC is in nackground but my volume wheel should ONLY work for the Windows Master volume ...
