Hi folks,
Is there any way to replace the internal JRiver subtitle renderer with XYsubfilter? The internal one looks bad in comparison.
Thanks

MC 21.0.58 Red October HQ. I was using the MPC-HC internal renderer or XYsubfilter renderer before.

Subtitle processing is quite deeply integrated into MC, and as such we do not offer a replacement subtitle engine as such today.

However, for the next build (21.0.61 and newer):
Changed: Text Subtitles are rendered with proper Anti-Aliasing.

This should bring the quality to the same level as your comparison screenshot.

A new build with this change is available now. Note that there is another improvement coming in a future build that increases the render resolution of text subtitles. I only noticed today when working on an unrelated issue that its lower than it should be.

Thanks Hendrik.

21.0.64 is much closer to what JRiver subtitle engine deserves.

One more thing. It is somehow possible to shift text subtitles down more than the "cap" set in JRiver? With anamorphic black bars on a 16:9 screen, 2 rows of the text subtitles should be rendered on the black bar even with 70% size. Thanks.

With subtitles at 70% and shifted down 30% (max), I get two rows of subtitles in the black bars of a 16:9 screen with a 2.40 movie.

Personally I think it starts to look funky when it gets too close to the edge, maybe you should shrink them slightly. But the user is the boss I suppose, no reason to offer position shift options if they don't do anything.
So, in the next build:

Changed: Subtitles can be shifted down a bit further to the edge of the screen.

This should make the shift down options a bit more effective, without changing the default position.
Previously, they wouldn't really shift down at all anymore, since they were already drawn at our bottom border, now I allow it to pass this border when shift down is used, closer to the edge of the screen (although not quite all the way, because that has other implications)

If you had a high shift down selected already, it would move them further down now, but if you select 30%, thats what you get, i guess.

Thanks Hendrik. The main reason of having subtitiles down to the edge is to not disturb picture elements at camera focus. But more important, if you have small screen or you are sitting far enough from the screen, subtitles need to be set larger to be able to read them. For example a 40" screen from 4m distance ( usual household ).

I'm not sure if it's a JRiver issue, but it seems like there is too much padding at the bottom of subtitles.
Attached is an image which shows the default subtitle position, and then they move up when enabling madVR's "move subtitles to the bottom of the screen/window" option.

Would it be possible to make the subtitle shift setting global please? Now I have to set "Down 30%" with every new video to get the subs where I want them.

There are no plans to change how these options work at this time.

Can you set subtitle parameters using the [Playback info] field?  I'm not sure if it's documented or recommended, which is why I'm asking.
