Sound distortion playing Ipod thru Hifi
« on: September 10, 2003, 06:49:45 am »

I recently changed from Xplay to MC9.

Great software one slight hitch I can't work out.

When I hook up my ipod to my hifi, plugging in via headphone jack, the sound is about 10 times louder and 'muffled' compared to when I plugged my ipod using xplay.

The only thing i can think of is replay gain, I have analysed all my tracks although I just noticed that replay gain was not checked in DSP studio, so I'm not even sure the files have this information in them when I sync'd my ipod last night.

Any ideas how i can get the crisp sound I'm used to thru my hifi. The sound is great thru' my headphones.

Thanks

Can you provide a little more detail on what you're doing?

Your iPod is connected to a regular stereo/hi-fi amplifier, correct?

Which connector are you using on the amp?  Phono won't work.  Video or CD work well.

The combination of how you have volume set on the iPod and on the amp can affect sound quality.  In general, you want it higher on the iPod so you don't have to amplify as much.

Hi

Its connected to a mixer via headphone jack, i'll double check its not thru the phono.

Thing is i know it worked fine before - do you think replay gain would do this? Do you know of any other way to connect an ipod to hifi?

Thanks

I'm confused when you say a headphone jack, but maybe you mean that it's a headphone jack on the iPod.
