I've had it running on El Capitan for several months now. It runs great.

Hi
I have just installed el capiton - but must admit that the latest version of j river crashes for me when running. It hope this will be solved in an update.

The mac version also has a problem with tagging. I have flac files with tags - j river does not recognize the tag for disc number. Other programs like audirvana recoqnizes this. The files I have have a value in disc number - but it is not recognized by j river for mac.

Because of this double ads or triple cds are not indexed correct.

Have you installed MC21 by dragging it to the Applications folder? Or are you running it straight from the DMG?  If it's installed, try re-installing it.

That's not what I'd expect to happen.  I've ripped hundreds of CDs as FLACs, and several of them were multi-disc sets where I set the Disc # field.  MC recognized them correctly.

What is MC showing you for multi-disc albums?  Is it showing you two (or more) albums?  Or is it mixing the tracks together so you get Track 1, Track 1, Track 2, Track 2, etc ?  Or something else?

Finally, you might want to look at the tags on several of these songs and see if the Disc # field is there with the values you expect.  <right click> on a file and select Tag.  That will bring up the Tagging Pane on the left and let you examine the tags in detail.

Hi

I have just reinstalled and dragged it to the programs folder. After running an import of the library from the nas server - the program stops suddenly with a fault message.

According to tagging.
I have several flac files where the value for disc number is recognized correctly by audirvana and on my pc by footer and other programs. On my mac I use db power amp for ads and metadatics for tagging.

The way the discs show in j river is: 111, 222, 333, 444 - and not sorted by disc number 1234 - 1234 - 1234.

If I look at the tagging value in j river the field is empty - if i look at the same value in metadatics it is not empty but filled out with the correct disc number.

As it works fine in other programs I think this must be a fault in JRiver for Mac.

I'm going to make a guess here:  You might have one or more "bad" media files that MC is trying to import.  Turn off auto import for now and see if it stabilizes.  If it does, you can turn on logging, then make it crash again, and send in the log (here in the forum).  Then someone can probably tell you why it's crashing.  Hopefully they'll find the file or files that are making it crash.

To disable auto import:  Tools > Options > Library & Folders > run auto import in background > (uncheck)

Hmm.  I'm certain that MC recognizes the tag named [Disc #] because I RIP CDs with an external program that adds this tag and MC reads it every time.  I wonder if Metadatics is adding a different field name with the disc number?

I just downloaded Metadatics and opened several FLAC files on my system that are from properly tagged multi-disc sets.  I read some files that have disc numbers and Metadatics showed them.  Then I removed the disc number from one file with MC, and loaded it into Metadatics.  Metadatics did NOT see a disc number, so I added it in Metadatics and saved it.  MC saw the change in disc number after Metadatics saved it.

I conclude that Metadatics and MC definitely work correctly together with Disc number.  Load up some of your problem files into Metadatics and see what it shows for disc number.  I'm betting Metadatics will NOT show a disc number at all.

The other programs, that seem to be sorting correctly, are probably sorting based on the file name, which *probably* has the disc number in the file name, or in the directory name.  If that's the case, we can add disc numbers for you based on those names, either with Metadatics, or with MC's "fill properties from filename" feature.

Let us know what you come up with.  ...and good luck!

Caution: Metadatics wipes out MC's Tracknumbers when saving altered files - at least in my environment!

^ I only saved one file with Metadatics, which was track #2, of disc #2, of The Best Of The Doors.  It worked fine and it still has Track # set to 2.

I've got to say though:  After spending a month or two using TWO different external taggers that I thought did things that MC couldn't do, I was almost embarrassed when I figured out how powerful MC was at tagging!  The combination of:

1.  Easy Tagging Pane that you can pull up any time with a keyboard shortcut, giving you immediate access to all tags.
2.  Being able to paste in EXPRESSIONS in the tags!  Holy Wow.  You mean I can alter the tags on hundreds of files at once with RULES?!?  This is power my friends.
3.  The Rename, Move, and Copy tool.  The ability to rename files so that they ALL have the same layout is amazing.  But the Rename, Move, and Copy tool can be used on individual files, albums, or huge groups of files at once.  You choose when to use it, what rules to use, and what files to rename.  If any.

These 3 things have made all other taggers obsolete for MY purposes.  I can only think of one reason to use an external tagger now:  If your metadata is very wrong (or non-existent) in your files.  Then you might use something like Music Brainz Picard.

Otherwise, I don't know why anyone would use an external tagger when MC's capabilities are so powerful and complete.

Re: Anyone Running OSX El Capitan? Lost Volume
« Reply #13 on: October 03, 2015, 11:19:42 pm »

LOST VOLUME:
I installed El Capitan yesterday. Today I opened MC 20 & MC21 to play some tunes and there was very little volume at my audio system. Had to put my ear to the speaker to hear any. I checked all the applicable options/settings in MC 20 & MC21 and nothing had changed. Nor had I changed anything yesterday. I also checked Audio MIDI Setup and Sound in System Prefs. Nothing different. So I booted an external drive that has OS 10.10.5 and MC 20 and MC21 and MC did its job. Any ideas???

Running fine so far. Only problem I have is that I can't move MC's program window to my 2nd screen. My Mac Mini came with Yosemite and I've recently upgraded to El Capitan. Only with El Capitan I've hooked up a second screen (primary through HDMI, secondary through a converter cable to a Thunderbolt 2 connection).

All other programs I can move to my 2nd screen with no problems. Only MC doesn't want to go there.

I've had this same weird problem.  Also the problem noted in another thread about the media control keys not working right anymore with recent 10.11 updates.
