DLNA: won't play certain files
« on: January 09, 2016, 12:37:00 pm »

I'm having trouble with playing files from the server, and I can't explain why.

Computer A is attached to the server (where all files are located). I'm trying to play certain video files that play fine on the server. I'm getting the following error message:

"Something went wrong with playback. Details: Failed to find or open file. (hr=0x80004005)

Other files of the exact same type (mkv) play fine. Same location on the server. I can't explain what's going on.

Note that Computer B, also on the network, plays these files fine from the server.

Playing with DLNA is different than playing with MC.  With DLNA, what it can play will depend on the device you're playing to.

OK, these are the SAME file types. There's no reason they shouldn't be playable.

Also, why are my renderers not showing up on other computers?

I just confirmed that one of the files in question plays fine on Computer A, once it is moved there. So clearly something else is getting in the way.

If you are using MC on both PC's, you should not use DLNA.  Use MC's own Library Server.  It's part of Media Server, which is part of MC.

I guess there's some terminology confusion. In order to use one PC as Library Server I have to check the box that says "Enable DLNA," so I just figured it was the same thing. In any event, it doesn't seem to be making a difference with regard to my problem. See this thread: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=102512.0
