Get Movie & TV Info for Episode #0
« on: October 13, 2015, 11:43:49 am »

Some TV episodes in the TVDB have an episode number = 0.

When I "Get Movie and TV Info for the episode", MC tells me "Television shows must have a numeric Season and Episode value" and won't look up the episode.

There is a zero in the episode field.

Can this be fixed or is there a work around?

JR uses http://thetvdb.com/ for TV series infos.

If I wanted info on a special or episode 0 of MASH, I would search for MASH in the database.
I then get this http://thetvdb.com/?string=mash&searchseriesid=&tab=listseries&function=Search

I see M*A*S*H, having ID 70994.  There is a tag in MC for tvdb ID, select relevant files and tag them with "70994".

Clicking on M*A*S*H in thetvdb, I see season 1 to 11 and Specials.  Clicking on Specials, I see :

Episode Number   Episode Name   Originally Aired   Image
1   30th Anniversary Reunion Special
2   Memories of M*A*S*H   1991-11-25

I would then create my "season 0 episode X to Y" and populate accordingly my tags.

Others may have a better workflow, this works for me...

I've never seen an episode 0 on TheTVDB. Can you share an example where you saw that?
Season 0 is used for specials and we already allow that.

PS:
You don't need to manually tag the TVDB ID, its a relational field that applies to all files of the same [Series] automatically.

Naked Science-S2008E00
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=80994&seasonid=489556&lid=7

In that case TheTVDB is definitely wrong. The database sorts according to this rule: "episodes on this site episodes are numbered in the order they aired on TV in the Country and on the Channel of Original Production."

In the example, the "Originally Aired Date" of the episode "Monster Black Holes" is after the complete Season 5/2008 is finished. Wikipedia lists 24 episodes for that season, while IMDB lists 21, and "Monster Black Holes" is the last episode.

Basically, that series is completely mucked up on TheTVDB, and is inconsistent across multiple sites. https://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9215&p=36647&hilit=Naked+Science+2008#p36647

You could put in a request to have it fixed if you like.

Do you have any other examples?

While the TVDB may be wrong, that doesn't address my concern with MC functionality.

TVDB users occasionally mis-number episodes (and supply other incorrect information) and this probably gets corrected in time by people knowledgeable about the specific circumstances. I'm not interested in engaging in those discussions. I just want to be able to reference the season and episode information in the TVDB regardless of its correctness.

I would like MC to look up episode 0 info just like it does for other episodes.

Can this functionality be corrected?

Fair point/question.

From a non-dev perspective, sounds like an easy one.
