Hi,
   I recently acquired Lampizator big7 with DSD 256 DAC
   I have downloaded driver from the link provided and have tried to set up
J River Media 19 or 20 to playback music file but was not successful.
   I would like to know how to set up appropriately
   According to other experience the best sound coming from this DAC for PCM
is to convert to DSD file, how can I do that with J River media

I don't know this dac (or understand why a DAC  has tubes incorporaated in it either for that matter), but if you want to change the output parameters it is located in "DSP studio" -- this is done by zone in version 20/21.

You probably should (might have to?) setup two zones to handle PCM and DSD output. You could set up a zone switch rule for actual DSD/PCM input. To test your PCM to DSD "conversion" this is where you would want to try.

I'm assuming by the driver you mean an ASIO driver provided by the DAc manufacturer? If so you would want to choose it (by zone) under Audio device. Initially JRiver defaults to one zone named "Player" out of the box.

I am sceptical about why you would want to convert PCM to DSD ... no science behind that one, and probably prone to expectation bias. But hey what ever sounds best to you ... its enjoying the music that counts.

My Lampizator DAC uses amanero technology.  For Mac and Linux no driver needed
Let's forget about the PCM to DSD conversion first.  Right now I only want the DSD function to work.

I downloaded the driver from amanero following the web provided by Lampizator and
the download was successful. I did all the connections and checked that everything is OK.
I also can playback this DAC via SPDIF from PC using Gustard U12 USB interface to SPDIF
with J River Media. Gustard USB interface has its own driver and I am not using Lampizator driver here.

However it did not work with the Lampizator DSD. I don't know whether it was because of the PC did not recognize
the driver (driver's problem) or because of inappropriate setup.

I set up the J River Media as followed (as the info. from Lampizator is not in English so I followed those of MSB
DAC setup)

Step one: Go to Tools  Options
Step 2: Select Audio tab on the left side of the window
Step 3: Under Audio Device select (MSB ASIO Driver [ASIO) in my case: amanero combo384
Step 4: IMPORTANT! Skip to step 5 if you have the Premium USB interface that allows for Quad Rate DSD and Direct DSD.

Only do this step if you have the standard DAC IV 192kHz USB, the DAC IV Signature 384kHz, or the standard Analog DAC USB interface.

Under Audio Device select … Device settings… and under Tools check the box DSD bitstream in DoP format

Step 5: Under Settings select Bitstreaming: DSD
 
Step 6: Scroll down to Volume and select Volume Mode: Disabled Volume. This will disable JRiver’s digital volume control and send the audio direct to the DAC without any manipulation. You can leave it on and just set it to 100%.

It still doesn't work.  I have asked Lukasz but did not get the answer back.  I also asked the seller but he uses HQplayer .

Please help me about the set up.  Or if you think there is something wrong with the driver please help me to find the right one.

If it's in the DSD I will ask for warranty service.

Hi

you have a lot of pretty esoteric stuff, and another device (your spdif interface) added into the signal chain ... so multiple drivers could be causing the issue.  is your DAC not asynchronous? If it is, do you really need the USB interface to SPDIF??

I don't know who you are talking about, but IF he also uses a USB/SPDIF interfaces ask him what driver to use. You might need to use the ASIO driver of the DAC (normally what you would want to do IMHO).

I'm guessing ta either your system settings are not right (see the wiki) or you need to use the ASIO driver for the DAC and not the interface

If no DSD specialist chimes in here, This is what I would do, if you can't get any help from the manufacturers or you don't get lucky and find someone who has your actual set-up here or on another forum.

First set up a zone only for PCM playback (you can use the Player zone) -- forget the ASIO for now and use WASAPI in exclusive mode.  (I strongly recommend to NOT use bitstreaming unless your equipment requires it) Does this work?

If so, Set up a second zone for DSD Playback (Menu Player=>Zone=>Add Zone). Uninstall the Interface driver and install the DAC ASIO driver. Connect the DAC direct USB (or SPDIF from your mother board) does this work? If so change the player PCM zone to this ASIO driver

You could also try WASAPI for DSD. Configure the appropriate out put settings for your DSD Dac. using one of the DoP choices first. Options=>Audio=>choose the new zone=>DSP Studio=>Output Settings=>Output Encoding) If this works at least you have music until you figure this out with the manufacturers.

The you could add back the USB interface, using the DACs ASIO driver to test.

Hope this puts you on the right track at least 

PS - your step 6 - the volume mode has nothing to do with it working or not (and is also misleading, there is no manipulation using the 64bit engine unless you consider -140db an audible noise floor .... whereas the tubes in your DAC will have an audible affect on the signal so I wouldn't worry about it; your choice, just avoid system volume or application volume)

After driver for the Lampizator is correctly setup and configure you must also configure Output Format for the correct type of DSD.
Tools>Options>Audio>DSP & Output format>Output Encoding: specify the type of DSD file you want to play.

Note also that many DSD-capable DAC require the supplied ASIO driver in order to play DSD. WASAPI won't work.

this is what I meant but Felix response might have been clearer (this can also be accessed via the DSP Studio button as mentioned. Regarding WASAPI and DSP he is probably right on this ... what I wanted you to check especially is if you can get WASAPI playback for PCM to determine if it is the wrong ASIO driver being used ... I have a feeling that the OP needs to use the ASIO driver from the DAC manufacturer and not the "bridge" ASIO, also to see if that USB/SPDIF hardware is really necessary or if it actually preventing the current config from working
