Hi all,

Every time I reboot I have to renew my license. After doing so it says mediacenter is licensed, but after reboot it happens again. I have only 5 restores left :-(

Perhaps your Machine Settings.ini file is corrupted.
You can delete it and try the license process again. It's in the users home directory under
.jriver/Media Center 21/Settings
Note that you'll lose some settings if you do this.

Thanks a lot! That seems to have fixed it :-)

However, I just started using mediacenter two days ago and now have only 4 restores left for the next year! Can this be resetted somehow? What happens when its at zero, do I have to pay for another license?

Is it a good idea to make a backup of the Machine Settings file? So it can be copied back when it gets corrupt. Or will this file's contents change over time?

It shouldn't get corrupt but it doesn't hurt to have a backup.
The backups MC makes automatically include a copy of the settings files.

I was able to reproduce this issue. My problems started after a power failure in my house. When shutting off power of the computer (instead of bringing it down neatly) the Machine Settings file is set to 0 bytes for some reason, this is reproducable and happens every time. Copying it back (this time I made a backup) and it works fine again. Of course a power failure or just pulling the power plug of the computer is not a daily thing, I do understand that ;-)

The Settings files are usually open read/write while MC is running. The loss of power is causing file corruption. I'm uncertain why this would be if you are running a journaling filesystem.

I am running ext4, which is a journaling filesystem. It seems however to be the only file that is zero bytes after a power failure. Anyway, thanks for your help  :-)
