Bug Hunting and User Interface
« on: August 25, 2003, 01:44:33 pm »

We're trying to close the work on 9.1.  We have a serious deadline to meet.  So we ask your patience in helping us get there.

Please report only BIG BUGS in the thread that announces each build.  Minor problems will still get some attention, but we need to get all the big ones.

Please do not use the build thread for discussions.  It makes it hard to read and that increases the chances we'll miss a big bug.

The User Interface is pretty much finished.  It may get minor tweaks before release, but that's about it.  So save your ammo for the next release.

That said, minor suggestions are still welcome.  If you can say it in less than 25 words, there may be a chance.

Quicker, more direct access to file properties without the necessity to use the action window's browser toy.

Let's not have all the nice colorful toolbar buttons greyed out until you happen to hover over them. I want MC to look good better.

A "ghost" image next to the right of the Playerbar Display. A nice place for skinners to show the MC logo (or something else...).

Some people may see that different... Hover effects for buttons are standard in most apps today. But what you want to have was possible in the times when the toolbar buttons were part of MC's skin...

Or in 12 Words:

Put back the "Toolbar_Inactive" image into the skin folder. Kill blend color.

Change the default 'no cover art' image for something else.

The actual image seems the play buttons (play, next, previous, stop, ...), so some people can get confused when seeing playing now.

My father tried to skip songs, clicking over the image.

hello (40 words) take out every other letter

Now that the search area has been placed

Can you maybe stretch it out a bit so I can see more than 10 char at a time?

I know it expands but why?

Just use the real-estate

Allow DSP & Crossfade on audio of video clips(mpg's)

This would make MC almost perfect for my use.

Yes, I can change the default 'cover art' by switching some image.  However, a newbie is not supposed to do that.

Imagine you are a new user, and you'll realize the confussion is quite possible. Much possible if you are a MusicMatch user (MM play buttons are similar to MC icon...)

2 suggestions (so 50 words...):

1.- Include a button in AW to "show as it window"

2.- Simplify "tools" menu (default right click) by suppresing options to "Back", "Hide Action Window" and "Show as window". We have buttons to do that. And we could access to real tools easier.

1. Give us back a toolbar and menu option to go straight to Detailed Info.

2. Make the AW display the CD Burner and Handheld lists the same way it does with Playing Now and Playlists.

Then it'll be perfect.

Thanks Knicklefarz.  That's what I meant!

Hover effects are standard but have at look at MS Word.  That has hover effects without having the buttons appearing grey and bland all the time.

Either bring back the expandable/collapsable categories in the properties window or let us select multiple categories to view, instead of all or just one.

Scott.

Same as in 9.0 beta:
Remove or make real use of fields like "date imported", "date created" etc in View Schemes. It's just annoying having them there when they bug out (ever tried to group "date imported" in View Schemes??)

Sorry, for sounding like a bitter old man, but...

Two requests for Action Window:

1) Show all the Ipod options that are currently only available by right-clicking on the IPOD handheld icon
2) Show the DSP equalizer, so I don't have to go to the pop up window each time I wanna change ir

Cheers

Look at InternetExplorer, WindowsExplorer, Outlook, new versions of MSOffice... Word 97 not seems to be the reference for button behavior any more (not even for MS)... but I'm getting OT here  :-X

I was referring to Word 2002 but take your point about Explorer etc.  Since we are talking about a media app here take a look at WMP9.  Icons all bright and cheerful - just like they should be.

Plus they blend into the PixOS skin better.

But it could be made skin-dependent, in which case everybody could have what they want.

I sincerely hope this does not come to pass, or it is skin-optional. IMO, apps that have an array of omnipresent 'colorful' icons are usually not to be taken seriously, and nearly always look like clown vomit.

I know this has been discussed before but it still needs to be changed...

Action window should follow the Playing Now song without having to constantly keep clicking on the currently playing song to update it.

This is a real pian for me as the Album image does not follow the songs as they play.

This MUST be fixed before the Action window becomes useful to me.

Since the ActionWindow does not show info and images for the current playing track, it has little use to me also.

I will keep it always on Properties, not sure if I will keep it on docked or undocked.

I'd really like Images to be EITHER current playing track OR current selected track, then I'd use other things in the ActionWindow.

I've just noticed that you've added a new shortcut for changing between shuffle modes.

IMHO I think shortcuts for the different play types are just/more important, especially for remote users.  So here's my 25 words:

Please, please, please....etc etc,  ;) add key shortcuts for (play replace) (play only) and (add to play)

Thanks

The buttons in the action window are starting to look better but i think that making them act like web page links looks tacky. There's no need for them to go underlined when you put the cursor over them. The window should feel like a console of buttons.

I think.

Any chance of having an option to turn off the Location bar (the one with the search in), I actually find that between the Action Window and the various toolbar icons that I don't really use it and it's taking up valuable real estate on my 1024x768 screen?
