DSP Setting on MAC 352/384 or 2DSD in DoP ??
« on: November 30, 2015, 01:21:58 pm »

Hello,

In the DSP Setting...
Output Encoding: should i choose 2DSD in DoP format since i have a Wyred DAC 2 DSD se
or should i leave it at none... and then choosing 352/384 in sample rate settings ?

Also there is settings for hardware... should i stay in default or go "by 2" or "at max" if it doesn't skip ?
Does one affect to other?

Thank you for watching,

Probably not.  That setting converts EVERYTHING to 2DSD, which you probably don't want to do.  If you want to play DSD material as DSD directly, then you should set bitstreaming to DSD:

Tools > Options > Audio > Settings > Bitstreaming > DSD

That will send DSD as DSD, and bypass the DSP.  Then when you play PCM tracks, it will use the full range of DSP (if you have any selected).

If you're talking about the Device Settings screen and buffering... Hardware default is usually correct for hardware buffering.  For software buffering I recommend starting at 250 mS and seeing what happens from there.

Hello,

Thank you for answering... Yes i want to upsample all files except DSD ones.
i'm always getting skips in Audirvana and JRiver when setting to 352 or 384 output.
Yes DSD is already selected in Bitsreaming, so when i play DSD files, there is no change
but when i play 44, 48, 88, 96, 176, 192 files they are getting out as 2DSD in DoP.

I have put software buffer at 500 and hardware at default...
All plays well and no skip to date, so i'm happy.

That matches my setting (2xDSD). On my DAC this gives best results...

Now i'm Buffering software: 1000 Milliseconds and Hardware: maximum
Bitstreaming in DSD, Output Encoding: 2xDSD, prebuffering: 6 seconds

All is smooth, no skip. Love the sound.  :)

I'm back   :)

The other day, i was making some tests, i found that output encoding 2xDSD was not that good finally with PCM Flac files
at least for a one Peter Hammill song... the 2xDSD one was different in the left channel than the PCM one upsampling at 352.
The acoustic guitar was more near in the left speaker than the 2xDSD output encoding... the DSD one that was not as clear...

With that example, i wasn't sure anymore that this was the best way to max out the capabilities of my DAC and JRiver.
Maybe JRiver is not as good to do PCM to DSD, than Upsampling 44 PCM at 352 PCM.

So now i'm still at buffering at 1000 milliseconds and hardware at Max (power of two), and Upsampling files at best of my DAC:
44 to 352, 48 to 384, 88 to 352, 96 to 384, 176 to 352, 192 to 384.

Now i still bitstream in DSD for DSD files and let the PCM in PCM, but Upsample them at best i could.
Heaven :-)
