It's a Linux based OS I believe.  It's just not listed as one of the supported QNAP NAS models.

You would have to ask QNAP.  I don't know.

Not to sound too dumb, but I installed JRiver on my HS-251 (as well as HD station and Chrome) and I cant figure out how to access JRiver from my PC. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok so I figured some things out:

1.  For me to install this I had to go to "Control Panel" > "Applications" > "HybridDesk Station" in order to install JRiver. 
2.  The unfortunate part here is that I will need to hook up my NAS to my TV via an HDMI cable in order to run JRiver.
