Missing option to play from URL in gizmo
« on: December 25, 2015, 04:00:06 pm »

Looks like it's only possible to enter acess key or ip-address.

I really would like to enter an URL, i.e player.mydomain.com

Possible fix, please ?

IN MC save the URL as a playlist.

Ah, I have not explained my problem good enough.

When launching Gizmo, I must connect to a server. In the starting page in Gizmo I can only enter accesskey or a ip-address, not a dns-name. I want to connect to my JRiver with a DNS-name i.e myplayer.mydomain.com

Why do you want to do that?

I can explain why...

One of the things that I LOVE with jriver is that it's supports HTTP. (Try that with ROON ...)

So, on my server I'm using Nginx as a reverse proxy, allowing access to my library server over http port 80. It allows me full access to my media library from everywhere on the internet, even behind the firewall at work. It soo fantastic, using the jriver full client at my PC anywhere, it works as it was local.

This year the Santa was kind to me, and gave me a tablet for Chistmas.. My using gizmo just as I have always done with jriver is not possible anymore ... Miss that ...

THATS WHY I want to access my library server with a DNS name ... Accepted as a good new years wish ?  ;D

JRiver runs it own "reverse proxy" so that you can stream from MC behind a firewall to a remote Gizmo anywhere on the Internet, and therefore you don't need to bother with any of the complicated stuff you are talking about.

Ok I need to be even more spesific.

My server runs several services; confluence, wordpress, syncrify server and other web-applications and they all are visible on the internet at the same ip-address and port, the only that differ them is the dns-name. nginx are resolving the names and forward to the appropriate internal service at the correct port.

Please tell me how it's own reverse proxy works. It did not work on my machine...

If I enter the JRiver Library Server access key, I see the Gizmo is trying to connect on the correct external ip-address, but at the wrong port (52199). It should try port 80. But even then it cannot work, as the are several services at the same ip-address and port, and the nginx need the dns-host name to route correctly. No Firewall would normally allow browing on port 52199 ...

The nginx solution is free, simple, fast and IMHO perfect ...

Oh yes, indeed it is. If Gizmo just could be able to enter a DNS-name (just as JRiver full client is ...)

Our wiki has a topic on Network Access:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Network_Access

and another on Access Key:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Access_Key

That just confirms what I have written above. If I have several services on my server and wants it to be FW firendly, my solution is a good answer, but it needs DNS hostname lookups, so please add this option to Gizmo ... It should not be a big thing to fix.
