OK, I Give...need file/path help
« on: February 09, 2003, 09:43:12 am »

Hello Group,

I've read the help pages....
And searched here for the answer.....

If I understand the help pages, (for example) if I add "live" to the end of a song title, that should also change in my folders/files???

In any case that is what I'm looking to do...
When I update something either in the folders/files or within MJ, I want that info to change in both places at once so I don't have to do in both places.

Fyi, I have "update tags when file info changes" checked.

Thanks,
Barry

Like This

Artist: 'Rolling Stones'
Song Name: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Filename: Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.MP3

Artist: 'Rolling Stones'
Song Name: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Live)
Filename: Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Live).MP3

Add (Live) at the end if the Song Name

Sample:
Song Name: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Song Name: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Live)

then use the rename function

select file, right click, rename files from properties

Thanks for the detailed note...
You could have used a shorter song title :)

But....But...
If you couldn't tell, I am a rookie!!!

So just where is the "rename function" located?

And from your diagram....
Am I adding "live" to the song title from the media window by using right-click 'rename'?
Or am I clicking properties to add "live" to the title?

Now I have tried both of those and nothing ever changes within my file/folder for any song!!

So are you referring to another "rename" function?

Thanks,
Barrry

Both of those methods make changes only to the tags. Using the Properties method allows you to apply changes to the tags of multiple files at once. Also, you should make sure that you have the tag options set correctly in the MP3 Input plugin.  Go to Tools|Plugin Manager|Input|MP3 Plugin|Configure. Under Tag Saving, set both options to Save (create if necessary).

Changing the info in the tags does not automatically change the filename. To do that you must use Rename Files From Properties. This allows you to choose how a file is named based on the information you've entered in the tags. This option is available in slightly different places depending on which version of MJ/MC you are using.
