MC21 crashes Windows 7 premium
« on: January 14, 2016, 04:25:28 pm »

Until this evening never had an issue, but won't load. I can't backup,  change anything as it crashes on start up.

I have mc19 still loaded, this works fine so my music library is not at risk plus it's backed up on a separate hdd.

Question is simply this, should I just uninstall and reload etc? Anything else to check before I hit the delete button?

Does mc21 offer any audio improvement over 19? I'm assuming latter is capable of bit perfection so therefore no.

Antivirus software could do that.

OK, but same antivirus for last 5 years, mc21 has worked perfectly well until last night. Mc19 works OK too.

The only way to know is to uninstall the AV.

See the "Weird Problems" link in my signature for other possibilities.

It could be anti-virus even if it worked before (because AV application behavior can change suddenly based on definitions updates). But, I'm certainly not sure of that in this case. Perhaps before that, I'd try:

1. Reinstall the current build of MC21 over top of your existing install.
2. If that doesn't work, uninistall it (when prompted, choose to KEEP both registry Settings and your Library)
3. REBOOT
4. Then reinstall the current build.

If neither of those work, then perhaps your Library (the database, not your media files necessarily) is corrupt. Do you get an error message of any kind or does it just crash?

Well that was bizarre. Did the uninstall, making sure I didn't delete library. The uninstall crashed so only partially done. Reboot made no difference, so I just reinstalled over the top. Works fine, and retained all if the original settings, including dsp options

Something got corrupted in your existing install.

If you have this kind of problem regularly, it could be a sign of faulty RAM, storage, or other hardware. But if it doesn't come back and you don't see other issues on the system, I wouldn't worry about it.
