OT -- Trucks and Snakes and Moonlight Strolls
« on: August 27, 2003, 04:01:17 pm »

Unless Matt or Nikolay are still there, it's over for today.

So here's where I was last weekend.

http://www.jriver.com/~jriver/2003/nebraska/august21/DSC01249.JPG

That's a cabin I bought from a guy named Alan, who built it.  He lives in Ainsworth, Nebraska.  It's about dead center east/west in the state, and around 30 miles south of the South Dakota border.

When I saw it first, the cabin was still being built 15 miles south, along the highway, on Frank Williams' place.  Here's a picture of it back in July, before it was moved.

http://www.jriver.com/~jriver/2003/nebraska/july/DSC01006.JPG

It took Alan about 6 weeks and probably 50 phone calls to find someone who would move it, but then, bam, it was up on a "hay sled" and driven north to the ranch a week ago Sunday.

I went down to see whether they'd put it in the right place this weekend.  I was glad to see they found the right spot.  Here I am and you can see I'm relieved:

The cowboy hat was $20, made in Guatemala, and it does a darn good job of keeping the sun off the old balding head.

The boots cost around $100, but they're worth it.  The place has a couple of rattlesnake dens, so you want to watch where you step.  Especially in the middle of the night when you have to creep out of the cabin to "answer nature's call".

I forgot to say that I bought myself a brand new truck, too:

I can tolerate the humble cabin, kinda nice for a change.
But the "outside to answer nature's call" part . . .
that's where I draw the line.

So, I guess you found the new "Now Drinking" button in MC, right?

Would you like French Fries with your German beer, sir?

Love the cabin AND the truck. Looks like the one old Dad had to move the family from West Virginia. No, wait ... that was the McCoys.

I know! ... it's like the one Uncle Jed drove us from "the hills" to Beverly Hills ... no, that's not right, either.

I have never seen a truck like that before.

I will, however, have to agree with Lisa about the outdoor facilities. When you're as old as us, (I'm only a year older than her) you've had enough of roughing it.

So, Jim ... what's up with you on that score?

C8,
There is a bathroom in the five year plan.  Would you like to make a reservation for some week in 2008?

Here's another picture of the truck that a deconstructionist like Knickelfarz will appreciate:

Funny

I could never boycott German beer

Today I bought 2 cases (a sample of about 10 German beers)

I also bought some from China (Tsingtao), Japan (Sapporo), Italy (Peroni) And Scotland (Tennent's)

Beer is a way to my heart, kind of like your new Truck is to you.

I just wonder what happened to the other truck you had so you can dive stealthily.

I see the pic, no bondo?, Just rust?

I'll get back to you on that. BTW, your "yard" looks like MY yard ... I haven't mowed in an embarrassingly long time. And now it's raining ... DARN the luck, anyway!!!

The truck is a Ford. It may look crappy but it will still run. My '73 ("yours" looks to be a '78 or so) started to miss a little this past weekend so I got under the hood and pulled the distributor cap ... the points were all but completely closed. It shouldn't have been running at all and if it had been a Chevy, it wouldn't have been. But it was just missing occasionally.

No build, huh? Let's see what THAT one stirs up.

Don't know about your truck, looks like it would like to rest in peace or just begs for a last short exit in a stock car race ;D

But a nice, aesthetic pic... like it!
A friend of mine took this some years ago somewhere in Nebraska:

"Deconstructionist"? Mmh, sometimes... How did you found out? ;)

A wise decision for a real beer lover. The only thing that comes close is Czechian and Danish beer... Old euRope off here ;D

it looks like someone was living in that car since it has a power pole and meter next to it.

What's a lonesome man doing in the nigth when he's "outside to answer nature's call"? Looking at the milky way, listening to the strange, exciting sounds of animals? But it's Nebraska... maybe it's more about snake hunting with a pump gun...

Only skunks... but they never payed their power bill...
