Toggle track links on/off
« on: January 20, 2016, 11:22:04 am »

Hello, I hope you all are doing well.

I have an extensive classical music collection, and I have used JRiver's track link function to link many multi-movement works.

However, there are instances where I don't want to have the links, for example playlists of only opening movements or only Mozart Adagios. Can track link be toggled off for specific playlists or smartlists?

If not, could this be added to the "1 hour coding time" feature request thread?

Thank you!

How would you mark a playlist or smartlist as one that shouldn't link the files?

It's pretty simple (obviously) to turn off track linking, but I'm not really sure how we'd expose it optionally to the user.

Matt, for me this function would apply only to a few Smartlists.

Could you possible add "Break all track links" to the available options when you hit Edit [Smartlist] > Add New Modifier?

I don't know what that means in terms of code, I suppose it would have to be added to the Smartlist Rules Importer/Exporter data fuctions.

Thanks again.

My suggestion for this rather unusual request:

Create particles for each of these linked tracks that you don't want to be linked in some cases.  Use the regular song/file when you want the links to work.  Use the particle when you don't want the links.

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Particles

Example procedure:

1.  Select linked song.  <Right click> Stacks > Advanced > create particle .  Give it a descriptive name like "song name - no link".
2.  Right click on the particle > Library Tools > Break track links
3.  Now use the "no link" particle any time you want a standalone version.

Particles take up no extra space.  They are just database entries.  Because these new particles are part of a stack, you can just click the stacking icon and the original song and the "no link" song will stack up and appear as one song.  The best of both worlds!  No extra space.  No clutter.  But both sets of functionality.  Click the stack icon again to see both versions.

Brian.

Thanks Brian. This solution works great.
