Next improvement request for TV Guide
« on: January 22, 2016, 08:06:07 am »

You guys are doing an excellent job with the TV feature in Media Center 21.
I appreciate all your efforts.

I would like to suggest a new-next "feature request" for your consideration. That is I would like MC to provide a "more clear" way to easily show what Channel/Time-Slot your are currently in (have selected). Obviously it's important to know what Channel/Time is selected before you hit the "Record" button. I usually find myself having to move the remote's direction button to figure out where the selection currently is at. The current highlighting, IMO, is too subtle.

This is current MC TV Guide View (nice!) But I find it difficult to tell which channel I have selected

This is new Kodi 16 TV Guide (similar, but they highlight the channel you are on (in left column), which is nice, as it guides your eyes to the current channel/time selection.) I would really like to see this in MC TV Guide view. Or just bolder highlighting in the MC view. Thanks.

Good ideas IMO.

The thing that always gets me is how the highlighted show jumps wildly around when you press the up/down arrow. Especially if a long movie on one channel is next to some short shows on another channel. The highlight ends up way OFF THE SCREEN to the right. The highlight needs to be more "sticky" to the left (or the anchor time), rather than jumping way out to the right where you can't see it at all.

I believe this was fixed a while back. At least I have not noticed it recently.
Are you running a current version (21.0.30 or newer) of MC21?
How many hours of programming do you see in your TV Guide view, two or ?

Running v21.0.39

Only have 1.5 hours showing (set by Theater View zoom setting). Especially notice when cable company music channels have 4 hour blocks and move down to regular channel, the highlight is way off the screen to the right.

Please consider downloading more than 7 days of guide. 10 days would be nice, but 12 or even 14 would be even better!

We do get more than 7 days.  Theater view guide only display 7 days due to large amount of data it has to handle.  If you want to try it, you may change that behavior by going to Tools > Options > Theater view.

I am using MC2XML (non Rovi provider).

Yes, I can certainly show more than 7 days in the guide but after 7 days everything just says "Program Info Not Available". Even looking at Standard View and To Be Recorded, nothing is showing up past 7 days.

FWIW I like the "highlight the channel on the left hand side" idea.

MC2XML apparently only give us 7 days of data.  There is nothing that can be done.  I tried passing the -d parameter to it for 14 days, but it still only gives 7 days.

Not sure what is the feed here but I use the -d parameter with MC2XML and in my case it's hours not days I need to put in and I get about 12 days.

I put -d 337 in the command line. Works like a charm.

Thanks! Confirmed this does work... Have to manually re-do all my hidden channels and logos (again).

EDIT: surprisingly it kept all my hidden channels, logos, and recording rules. YAY

Good stuff.  In my case, changing the provider meant I had to manually re-enter all my channels for subscriptions..  :-[

I also confirm the theater view guide will go up to 12-13 days with data.  This is nice!!

One thing I've just done with MC2XML is to use a channel file *.chl which allows you to exclude unwanted channels or just include the ones you want.  Very handy with my STB that has about 700+ channels.  Setup in MC is a lot faster and grabbing the data from the server is faster and less demanding on server/bandwidth.  More info here under General Information : http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/

What I'd LOVE in Theater view is the ability to go backwards a few hours (back a day or 2 would be great) just like in the standard view guide.

EDIT:  AND...Since I can get data for more than 14 days now it would be awesome if the Theater view could show it all!
You can customise the Theater view to show more days (I forgot...) You need to change it in the Theater view options and go from 7 to 14 or 21 Here's what I put in under the nested guide and click "Set Rules for File Display...":  [TVTime]=#TVGuideStartDate-21d

And I have data populated for the next 21 days in my guide!! All I need now is the ability to go backwards a few hours or days!

Just a minor warning. mc2xml has multiple sites mirrored on different servers. I always get a "This is a known dangerous website" from Symantec Norton 360 when I try to go to the hosterbox version. The Norton automatic site analysis identifies two "Identity Threats" from the site, both phishing attacks. Probably because there has been a whole lot of bad stuff hosted on the site in the past, not because there is a problem with mc2xml.

While it seems to be impossible to work out which is the main site, I always use http://mc2xml.awardspace.info/ and get no security warnings.
