Do iLok / iLok 2 VSTs work in MC?
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:59:40 am »

Hey Guys

I'm curious if anyone can verify if iLok / iLok 2 VSTs work in JRiver.  Anyone have experience one way or the other?

Thanks,
jim

I don't believe there are any iLok/iLok2 plugins that work with JRiver. Maybe Amarra or Audirvana, but I wouldn't count on it. There are tons of plugins out there, but iLok should only be used for registering with DAW's. JRiver's Digital Sound Processing (DSP) is probably the best DSP that exists in an audio player. Unless you are monitoring devices such as spectrum analyzers and meters representing audio characteristics (frequency distribution, amplitude, etc. visually, I think adding anymore processing than what JRiver offers is probably not going to help you too much.

I enjoy JRiver's DSP, but I also think that adding processing is a plug for weaknesses and leaks in an audio system. So try to minimize processing if you can.

Cool, yeah, thanks.  I mean I use convolution for room correction and it get's me phase perfect super flat frequency response at my listening seat. The VSTs I'm thinking about are really more for crafting the sound based on the source material.  There are some super cool VSTs out there which I like to use for simulating things like tube preamps:

This is the one I'm REALLY interested in:

I've heard / read great things about it!  But it requires the iLok2...ughh.

should work if ilok is registered to your machine.  works for me.

jriver is a 32 bit program, so only 32 bit vst work.

VST EQ Eiosis AirEQ works for me

I agree. iLok2 is just annoying. I'm sure the creators of iLok think piracy is annoying too. But $50 for a flash drive that stores licensing info is crooked when you can buy JRiver for that.

I use plugins for DAW's like Logic and Pro Tools. I forgot JRiver has a plugin manager in DSP options. I just downloaded tube preamp at the website you provided (philaudio.com). Extract the zip file and change the file extension from "TubePreamp.component" to "TubePreamp.vst" and it will work!
