MC 21.0.24 on a Mac.

Usage scenario:
1. After using the system to play music, I power down my amp and USB DAC.  The DAC disappears from system preferences as an output target.  This is expected behavior.
2. Later, turn the DAC and amp back on.
3. Use the remote to specify the zone and output device as the USB DAC.  The DAC appears in the JRemote list.  This is expected behavior.
4. Press play on any song - no music comes out.  This is not expected behavior.
5. Log in to the Mac hosting MC.  Click around on the output device in system preferences, where the USB DAC is listed, and keep trying to play a song in MC. Eventually MC "catches on" to play through the USB DAC. 

I have tried the same usage scenario with ITunes, Roon, and Spotify, all without any problem.  Only MC doesn't recognize that the USB DAC is back online and available in the OS.
