I have many hard discs, and they are often not connected to my computer.
I have catalogued the movies from these hard discs using JRiver and getting covert art for movies.
When the drives are not connected, I can't see any thumbnails, since covert arts are stored with each movie, on its own hard drive.
Is there a way to force the storing of covert arts on a local folder?
eg: C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 21\Cover Art

WHEN you have some MOVIES on an external hard drive, it stores the cover art and the sidecar together with each movie on that hard drive.
BUT it doesn't store it in the option specified. Indeed, that option is only for Audio mode.

Once MC loads a thumbnail it will show up regardless if the drive is connected.
So just connect your drive and open a video view to make MC load thumbnails.
They won't go away when you disconnect your drive.

No, but I wish there was.  I really don't like having 3 files for every video in my library all in the same folder.  I'd much prefer the metadata stuff stayed in a separate folder, like happens for audio.

Oh well, I lost that battle years ago.

In my case, thumbnails DO disappear.
But it may be because of what I ask Ccleaner to clean at computer start-up. I will check that.

^ Your cleaner program shouldn't be able to affect the thumbnails.  They are stored inside of MC's database; unless I'm mistaken.

A more likely explanation is that the database entries themselves are being removed by "fix broken links".  Do you see blank squares where these missing thumbnails should be?  Or do you simply not see those entries at all?  A good test would be to do a search for a few of these videos that have missing thumbnails.  If you search for them, can you see information like Name, Description, Actors, etc?  If you can, then it's some sort of thumbnail problem.  If you can NOT see any information about them with a search, then the database entries themselves are gone.

In that case, I would set "fix broken links" to "No".

Tools > Options > Library & Folders > configure auto import > tasks > fix broken links > (No)

Since the very beginning, I have set the parameter as you also suggest:
Tools > Options > Library & Folders > configure auto import > tasks > fix broken links > No

I think the problem comes when cleaning the registry: this seems to erase JRiver's watching of hard discs which are not connected. I'll be careful about that in my next uses of Ccleaner and Glary Utilities.

You really should not be running a Registry cleaner. The best case outcome is that no harm is done and performance remains the same.
