I'd recommend either using an existing list field (like Keywords which works for all media types) and filter your views to not show (or show) Kids stuff. Or you can set up a custom field call it for example "Hide" -- you could even create multiple ones that are associated with Media Types ... you could filter by genre even .. just add Kids. Sub types have specific uses --- I suppose you could use one that exists already that you don't use like "Educational" or why not mark everything EXCEPT the kid's stuff with Adult.  Filter on not Adult and Adult. Adult can mean pg13 if you want it to

As everytime this came up before - Media Sub Type will never be fully customizable because its values are used internally to control playback behavior.
Its also important to remember that its not meant to be a replacement for "Genre".

Media Sub Type should clearly identify the type of content, ie. Movie, TV Show, Music Video, etc.
A "Kids" show for example, is still a TV Show or a Movie, its not a new type, its just a specific categorization either fit for "Genre" or maybe "Keywords"

This is exactly what I do, using [Genre]=[Kids] as the filter on my views.

I would find it handy to have just that one sub type added as "Kids" as it is definitely a sub type of a movie and/or a show.

Yes I'm currently tagging the genre but would have preferred Sub-Type that's all.  If you don't want to add it then don't!

The problem is that the Automated Metadata Lookup system needs to know which of those two it is (if it is a TV Show episode or a Movie). If you had a [Media Sub Type]=[Kids] the system wouldn't know which it was in order to look them up.

That's what Hendrik meant, and is why [Genre] (or [Keywords] if you prefer) is a better scheme for this use.

I instead of using keywords found I preferred to use (Grouping)
