No audio when using external DAC - Resolved
« on: February 09, 2016, 01:12:35 pm »

I've seen this from others, but hope to get a resolution. I'm using Pono Music on my iMac and on occasion music plays fine using my Topping VX1 external DAC, but most of the time I get the following error:

Playback could not be started on the output "Core Audio" using the format "44.1kHz 2ch".
This output format may not be supported by your hardware. You can use DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format.
Also make sure that your system has a valid sound playback device and that it is properly configured in playback options.

My settings have my DAC selected and it shows as an option, but just won't play when selected. I would think the error would say 'VX1 Core Audio' to match my device selection, but it doesn't. If I select the option 'Built in output' it plays through my computer speakers without issue.

Any suggestions?

Ok, may have figured it out. I set the output sample rate for all files to 96k to match what the DAC is capable of and music appears to be playing now as expected.

Tools > Options > Settings > DSP & output format > sample rate
