MC21 and MadVR 10bits rendering
« on: February 09, 2016, 08:30:50 am »

Is RedOctober (HD) tuned to deliver a correct 10bit video stream?
Is there something to enable in JRiver to make it happen?

Thx for help

You need to go to the madVR settings window and make some changes. The madVR settings window is accessed by right clicking a playing (or paused) movie and going to DirectShow Filters > madVR.

In madVR Settings > Devices > %display% > properties you need to set "the native display bitdepth is" to "10 bit (or higher)."

Under Rendering > General Settings you need to check "enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode".

In your graphics card driver you need to set output color depth to 10 bits.

Thanks Mojave, I already enabled the 10bits rendering in MadVR (there is a little more parameters to set, look at this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=172128). My question is more about MC21, from the DOOM9 post: it's said that LAVvideo has to be set to output RGB48, which seems not to be the case with the patterns and videos I've tested. I don't know the way to enable this from MC.

RGB48 is only required for some of the test pattern to show entirely untouched quality, its not actually required for playback of 10-bit videos or 10-bit output to the screen.

Thx Hendrik, so when activating (CTRL-J), if the renderer is announcing 10bits in exlusive mode the decoder is correctly sending 10bits if the right source material is provided.
