In Theater View using remote control:
I'm watching a recorded tv show.
I press Guide and browse around for a while.
The show I am (still) watching is playing in the corner but I can't easily get back to it.
I have to navigate out of the guide> go to series > find the series > find the episode > press play.

Similar if I am watching live tv and go browse around in recorded shows.
If I want to get back to the live tv show I was watching, I have to navigate out of series > go back to the guide > find the show I am (still) watching > press play.

Does anyone have any shortcuts for this?

In WMC, we could simply use the back button or highlight the small window playing in the corner and press ok/select.

Yes. Just press the Media Center button. You may need to press it more than once to get back to the full screen version of the channel, because it toggles between the Guide, the Theatre View menu, and Display View.

On a genuine MCE remote the Media Center button is the big green button.
On any other MCE remote that is sending MCE commands, the command that needs to be sent is the "Media Center" command. For example, on my Logitech 880 that is the command I send.

There may be more information in one of these;

The Green Button is the most important button on the remote.

If only it could launch MC from the desktop when Media Server service is NOT running on the machine (client).

If only it could launch MC from the desktop when Media Server service is NOT running on the machine (client).
I do this using the 3rd party application Event Ghost.  Basically the scripts goes something like this when pressing the button:

1. Find the Window from MC21.exe
2. If unsuccessful, jump to 'Start MC21' and then return  <-this macro just simply starts the Media Center 21.exe program in program files.
3. start mc21.exe /MCC 22001, 8  <- this command kicks off a MCC command that enters theater view

This process takes me directly to my Recorded TV view from the desktop without having the Media Center Server running.  But it does require some time to set up Event Ghost.
