Whether it is while having it play during Shuffle or just navigating from one aspect of audio to another MC 20 was freezing up on me. Sometimes it unfreezes if left alone long enough - which can be a few minutes or a couple of dozen minutes or not at all. I upgraded to MC 21 but the problem is essentially the same.

I am running Windows 7 on a desktop and on a laptop. Both machines seem to work fine otherwise and neither are old.

Is there a known cause and is there a solution? Freezing happens very frequently.

MC21 freezes all the time for me ever since i switched to Windows 10.  If you think it's bad with 7, don't switch as Windows 7 was far more stable with MC.  I recently uninstalled and reinstalled MC and that seems to help.

There are a couple of things you could try. If you're not on the latest update of 21 (21.0.50) you could try updating to that version. You could try disabling auto-import to see if that resolves the issue. If not, you could enable logging and post the log on the forum after it freezes. That might provide us with more information.

Possibilities are:

Video driver

Antivirus software or other "security" software

Disk drive related (slow NAS or drive spun down)

These suggestions seem worth considering. I suspect that the Anti virus software might be a culprit so I will look into how I might reduce that impact.
