Particles disappeared.
« on: March 16, 2016, 06:26:04 am »

I recently spent some time splitting up some videos into separate particles.
These were TV series Blu-rays where it puts three or four episodes into a single file.

After restoring a library backup recently (made after the particles were created) all of the particles disappeared.
So I think there may be a bug and they're not being backed up at all.

Do yourself a favor and break up TV series into individual episodes.  It's easiest to do it at rip time.  But if you have to break them up based on chapter marks or something, then you can do it just after rip time.  I've used MKVToolnix GUI for this with great success.

I hate it when they put several episodes of a TV show in the same title.  It's much easier when each episode is it's own individual title.

Well that's what I used the particles for, and it worked well until they disappeared.

They should survive a restore.  Are you sure of the timing?

Positive. I set them up weeks ago and only restored a few days ago.
Maybe it wasn't the restore that caused them to disappear?

Rename, Move, and Copy files doesn't work on particles.  Maybe you did a process that included this? It's yet another reason that I don't use particles for this kind of thing.  In fact, I've pretty much stopped using them entirely.   They are a really neat idea, but too limited currently for my particular uses.

I don't think I moved the files, but I suppose it's possible.
Shouldn't a library backup restore the particles though, at least until auto-import runs again?

I just want the timecodes to recreate them, as I was very specific about them and it would be a lot of work to do again.

Going forward you might consider using Chapterfy to create a chapter file from the Particles.

You can do two things with the chapter files you have created:
1.  Quickly and accurately recreate Particles if you ever lose the Particles for some reason
2.  Share the chapter file with somebody else so they can instantly have Particles for the same TV Show, Movie, Concert, etc.

A chapter file sharing system like Doctor Who for Views would be awesome.
