Some file from etree.org not importing
« on: April 04, 2016, 11:55:06 am »

hi Folks!,

jriver seems to be picky about importing music that i download from etree. anything i can look for in the file signiture, or any dead givaways as to why certain files import and others dont?

It will load 3 file, the md5 file, the text file and the ffp file.
below is one that wont load, and 2nd is one that will load

gd1987-09-22.sbd.miller.134676.flac16
gd85-12-30.106019.sbd.walker.scotton.miller.t-flac16

also i noticed this in the md5 file
gd85-12-30.106019.tagged.md5
gd87-09-22.md5

as you can see one is tagged.......

thanks
michael

Text files, ffp files, and md5 files are all "data" and not exactly related to the music.

When you do your import, there should be a dialog that shows TYPES to import.  Make sure you have audio selected and that FLAC is selected inside of audio.  I'd recommend deselecting any data, image, or video types in these directories, since you're probably only interested in the audio.

Good luck.

Brian.

as brian said ... you also need to set Data Support to run (Options=>Features)

you might want to check their file extensions too , btw. I don't  know if *.flac16 is going to work. Might have to rename it to just flac.

I don't  *.flac16 is going to workM Ight have to rename it to just flac.

Yeah, we won't recognize .flac16.

Is that a common extension?

We could add support, but I've never seen it before.

Thanks.

the 16 just represents the bit. flac24 would be a hd or master recording.

ill give these suggestions a whirl.

thanks folks!

I can find quite a few through Google, but never seen it before.

Also appear to be quite a few flac24 files floating around too.

I'd add both, as they're definitely not used by anything else :)

hmm I found one. Renamed it to *.flac and it imported and played so you might not have to "support" it per se. Up to you Matt.

Are the flac16 and flac24 files actual flac encoded music files or are they text files?

I haven't downloaded any live recordings from eTree or other similar sources for bands like Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia in over a year. I do have some older eTree downloads that have "flac16" and "flac24" as part of the archive name. But none of those archives have any files that have a "flac16" or "flac24" extension. All the music files inside the archive are regular flac files with the flac extension. Is the use of a flac16 or flac24 extension something new?
