How do you get flac from drive onto sdxc card in track order
« on: April 09, 2016, 12:14:57 pm »

Hello again,

I have a portable player FIIO x3 sg, I want to dump some albums in flac onto a card for the player to read. All attempts so far using drag and drop have resulted in the albums transferring across with artwork etc. but in the wrong playback order. JRiver originally turned them into flac from cd. They play in order via mc21 from Mac. How do I copy them with the correct track order. Most simple possible approach would be appreciated.

Thanks very much.

The most straightforward way to do this is to rename those files within MC.  MC will continue to use the metadata to show you information about the files, just as before.  What you're trying to do is change the file name so that it starts with the track number.  Something like:

02_this_is_the_second_song.flac

You can use the rename, move, and copy tool to do this all in one shot.

I would do this with the Filename template:

Once they are renamed, any time you copy them to external media, they will automatically be in track# order.  If you have multi-disc sets, you should try to include the disc# also.  The article above addresses that I believe.

Personally I use [Disc #]-[Track #] [Name] to account for multi disc albums.
