Jerky videos with RedOctober HQ
« on: April 15, 2016, 03:04:19 am »

Hello

With 3D BluRay  support, I decided to use MC to play them, so I configured Video Mode to Red October HQ has recommended.
in general 3D BD plays correctly in 3D, some time not (they play 2D and I have to restart MC to fix it).
the 3D quality is good.
my problem then comes from the TV, when I configure Video Mode to Red October HQ, TV becomes very jerky, playing TV recording is also a little bit jerky and playing AV/MKV.. is ok. I check CPU usage and it never goes over 20%.
I also noticed that in this  mode, playing TV recording sets the TV to 3D mode, I have to switch off manualy.
When I configure back Video Mode to Red October standard, then TV is ok. (But I can't play 3D BluRay  :()

Any ideas ?
regards

Philippe

When playing a movie or Show with RO+HQ (madVR) hit the Ctrl + J key to bring up the status screen. If TV is switching to 3D for some reason the madVR status screen would show it is in 3d. See if this is the case. It might be a setting in madVR.
For the jerky movies, see if you can post a screen shot of the madVR status screen.

Neither screen shot shows that madVR is going into 3D mode. If it was in 3d , the madVR status screen would show "3D" near the top.

What is weird is that your display is showing 47.xx Hz (is this a 50Hz TV?), the show your watching is 25 fps (and playing back at 23.9x). Do you have the display modes in madVR setup to switch to the correct modes (i.e. 1080p23, 1080p59, 720p50, etc.) to match what your display is capable of?

Do you have the check box "checked" in madVR for "treat 25p movies as 24p"? If yes, do you have VideoClock enabled in MC?

It's strange I've also found that CTRL-J doesn't work and hasn't for some time.

You did open the madvr control panel, keeping it active when clicking CTRL+J?

You can go into the madVR properties from within MC now (Tools>options>Video>Open madVR settings).
Then go to "User Interface>Keyboard Shortcuts". Is the box checked for "use only if media player has keyboard focus"? Try unchecking it. Also be sure that the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+J" is still showing for "debug OSD - toggle on/off".

PhDSM: I was having the EXACT same issue, TV was trying to play back at 24p. I fixed it by putting the switching modes in the MadVR settings.

IMHO, this seems like a bug since my default display settings are 60p and my display switches fine to 24, 50, and 60p as appropriate outside of the TV function.

In my experience, if ctrl+J is not working then you are not actually using MadVR. Right click while a video is playing to bring up the menu and see what MC is actually using for play back of the current video.

Yep. Weird that it is using MadVR but control J doesn't work. Have you tried a different keyboard just for grins?

I earlier stated that it is working on my htpc. Then I tried on a different computer yesterday, running MC as a network client (if that is at all relevant, I don't know). CTRL+J worked once to get the madvr onscreen text on, but I was not able to turn it off again. This computer is too weak for madvr, and video playback was really jerky. I simply had to switch to RO standard.

So - on one computer (i7 with 660Ti video card), I have never had this problem.
One the other (i5 laptop with integrated Intel HD4x000 chip), I can reproduce the problem, and it seems on and off.
