Loading master license into JRiver on QNAP
« on: May 03, 2016, 11:38:57 pm »

Ok this is very frustrating. I purchased a master license on my computer so I could run JRiver on my QNAP. I entered in the registration code that was in the e-mail and the message that came was that it was for another product. There is no way this should be. I then got a temporary install key and got it through the chrome browser on the QNAP HD station. I downloaded it but then when I went to open it nothing happened. I still was not able to open up JRiver. Not sure why this should be so difficult and why were not these bugs worked out before it was introduced on QNAP.

I could use some assistance please.

This is a known problem.  If we can't fix it in a couple of days, we'll find a work-around for you.

It is a known problem? JRiver on QNAP was released several months ago. How is it not fixed yet? The reason I got the QNAP was that it would work with JRiver.

If you do not find a work around I would like my fee refunded. Please keep me posted.

Hi, I'm running into the same problem.  One thing I've noticed is my email says "JRiver, Inc. Media Center 22".  I noticed if I try and update for MC 21.0.54 on my Windows PC, I get the same error of it being licensed for a different product.  However, once I then updated my Windows MC to version 21.0.76, I was fine.  However, for QNAP this 21.0.54 appears to be the newest version.

We hope to find a solution for this today.  I'm sorry for the problem.  QNAP builds don't yet work with the new license.

Great, thanks for the update! I understand the issues of having to work through QNAP.  BTW, in my case, I run a Windows VM with MC (I actually debated a long time whether or not to get the Master license to include Linux builds such as HybridDesk), but was playing around, so using that for now as my server.

Thank you so much for the fix and your prompt customer service. I entered the registration code and it worked great. Thank you again!

From discussion I assumed that the problem is already fixed so I tried to install master licence on QNAP JRiver. "Licence is for another product" appeared. More over, every time I tried to install it, an email "You have recently restored a licence for Media Center 22 Master" came to my mail box. The last mail with "There are 10 restores available in each 12 month period.  There are 5 restores remaining at this time.". So I lost 5 restores by trying to install licence.
Is it really already fix or when will you fix it?

I can tell you that there are a lot of issues with the QNAP version of JRIver. I was sent a separate install license to use by an administrator because I went through the same thing and burned through several install keys.
So I got it up and running but it will not play many of my albums. I get file format errors constantly and then the whole program freezes up and I can only get it going again by restarting the whole system. I have been on the forum for 5 or 6 days now and every suggestion does not work. Nobody has said anything about working on the issue. My system is dead man walking. I'm frustrated as there is no tech support.

VR6, are you trying to play the actual albums on the QNAP install of MC?

So far, I'm using the "30 day trial" and I'm only using the QNAP MC to act as a media server.  I'm using the JRemote software on my iPad (and iPhone) to receive the stream from QNAP MC.  So far, this has been working perfectly, and my Hugo DAC is showing the right bitrate, tested from 44.1kHz to 192kHz.

Nachocheese,

I am trying to play the album files that are on the QNAP though the MC that is installed on the QNAP. What are you doing right and me wrong?

When you say you are using it as a media server I thought that is what I am doing also.

Take a look at the Media Network topic on our wiki.

MC can be used directly or it can be used to serve files via DLNA or its own protocol (using another copy of MC on another machine to play).  You can also use a remote control program like Gizmo or JRemote to control playback.

VR6,

Got it.  Here is a quick preview of my setup.  It should work assuming the actual files/albums are all fine.

1) On the QNAP/HD Station/MC, go to Tools->Options.  Then in the left panel select "Media Network".  Select checkbox next to "Use Media Network to share this library and enable DLNA.

Right underneath, there should be a "... Access Key: " and 6 character alphanumeric key.  For my QNAP, I had to click on it, then say yes, to get that 6 character word to pop up.

2) On either my iPhone or iPad, I purchased JRemote (yeah, it sucks you have to pay again, but this is a really easy to use app).  There are other DLNA apps out there but they require a little more setup.  With JRemote, I simply choose "Add a new server", then "Connect with access key", and then type in the 6 character alphanumeric key.

3) Then, on JRemote, at the bottom of the screen, there is the name of the server, and then "Player".  Select this, and then choose "This device".  Basically, you need to set the zone to "This device" which means the output is sent out the lightning connector.

4) I have Apple's official Camera Connector Kit (lightning to USB), that I then connect to a USB->MicroUSB cable, that then connects to my Hugo DAC.

Overall, my QNAP/HDStation/MC is only a server, and does not play any files.  Everything is streamed to my iPhone or iPad.  Hope this gives you an idea of my setup.

Sorry, everybody, this thread is called "Loading master license into JRiver on QNAP". Instead of talking about how to play from JRiver server to Hugo player via iPad, could anybody answer how to install master license on QNAP JRiver.
Thanks

This thread was started by VR6 and the question has been answered (VR6 posted the solution). This issue is due to MC22 license not being recognized by the older build found on QNAP HDStation.

The question has been answered on May 06 saying it will be solved that day (as nanocheese70 posted). It is not solved as my registration doesn't work so I am awaiting information when it will be solved so that I do not waste any license restore again.
Could administrator answer, please.

jirkaholy,

Please read VR6's post just yesterday.  My understanding is he was given a special license number that is recognized by build 54 of MC21.  I would recommend you contact an ADMIN or someone at JRiver directly.  I have 18 more days of "trial" so I'll wait it out.  I believe the full solution is to get any newer build (either 76 or 80) that recognizes MC22 licenses.

I can tell you that there are a lot of issues with the QNAP version of JRIver. I was sent a separate install license to use by an administrator because I went through the same thing and burned through several install keys.

You guys have to also keep in mind the delay in updates is likely due to having MC go through QNAP's QA process before it's released. If memory serves correctly, that delays the releases.

I'm working with QNAP on the latest release which will solve the license issue. It's been somewhat slow since we're working on a couple of other issues as well.

The new build is in QNAP QA now. Should be coming soon.
If you PM (personal message) me your Master License, I will send you a license that will work with the QNAP in the meantime.

I have same problem . I bought the new version MC22 Windows (update). Yesterday I bought  a QNAP NAS (TS251+) to use a MC on NAS. So I just bought also a MC22 Master (update). But:" I install the MC22 master licence key to my Qnap, the program said "Licence is for another product" ". I saw after that licence MC22 have valid only for MC21.0.83 version and following.

I tried to enter my new recently purchased within 5 days Linux reg code for a QNAP NAS running 21.0.83 and it shows invalid. Also shows 9 left because I tried it on my Windows PC.
Shouldn't it auto register when purchased from wthin MC? It's been over a couple weeks now and I probably need a new license. Can someone post a step by step solution to get a current version of MC to work on a new QNAP?

Please help.

Hi,

I have a MC 23 Master licence, which is currently installed on my Windows PC.
I also have a QNAP NAS. I previously had MC 22 installed on it.  I've since done a reinitialization of my NAS.
When I've tried to reinstall MC 22-I understand there is not a MC 23 version that works on the QNAP-I am unable to install the licence code. It just shuts down on me. I've tried using both my old MC22 code, and my MC23 code. Neither seem to work.
And I don't seem to be able to use the temporary install key - it doesn't seem to work with a QNAP NAS.
What can I do to get it working?

Regards,

Andrew
