JRiver will not work
« on: April 29, 2016, 06:36:43 pm »

Worked last week. iTunes works fine .
iMac running 10.11.4 El Cap Sound set to Ayre USB interface (this alone makes iTunes work)
JRiver 21.0.77
Options
Audio Device set to Ayre USB Interface
Device opne in exclusive access and Integer mode
DSP output format to DSD in Dop format
all sample rates set to no change.
J River plays to nothing comes through on the USB port. Again iTunes works.
Why is J River so fragil? I can't play any format ie flac, aiff, w4w, DSD etc.
Again the computer and external Ayre Codex plays just fine in iTunes.

Perhaps, the question should be is why are USB connections so fragile (arguably unreliable even) and why Ayre needs a dedicated controller to function. I'd look on the Ayre side first. Doesn't surprise me that iTunes works running a default 44.1k setup, btw reading the below

Quote from: Ayre
However, there is one cardinal rule—for Class 2 Audio the Ayre USB D/A converter cannot share a USB controller with any other devices.

To ensure that the Ayre USB D/A converter is running on its own dedicated USB controller is largely a matter of trial-and-error. Normally the physical USB port will be connected to a "smart" controller that automatically changes from USB 1.1 (Full Speed) to USB 2.0 (High Speed or "Enhanced), depending on the requirements of the attached peripheral device. However, there will not be a dedicated controller for each port, so sometimes it may be a bit of a trick to find an arrangement whereby the Ayre USB D/A converter has its own dedicated USB controller.

I'd check this first https://www.ayre.com/usb-dac-apple.htm good luck.

No the problem was with JRiver. I inadvertantly updated to MC21. It does NOT work. I switched back to MC20 and it works fine.
