Ripping non-English CDs
« on: August 07, 2003, 03:08:01 pm »

The MC freezes when I try to rip a non-English CD (Chinese in specific).  MC is able to grab the CD's info from the web database and list the track infos in Chinese.  When I hit rip CD, MC freezes and needs to be unfrozen by forced shutdown.

My machine runs Windows XP Pro and AMD chip.

Any idea?  TIA

Please copy your system info from MC Help so we know what version you're using.  We will check the problem then.

Thank you.

Are you ripping to mp3? Try changing to "uncompressed wave" to see if the problem is in the encoder.

The CD copies correctly using Uncompressed Wave.

One step closer to solving the problem.

I'm using the MP3 encoder that is automatically downloaded by MC.  If I uncheck "rip and encode simultaneously", the CD rips fine and when encode is about to start an error would pop up "Error 1 starting encoder".

What do you suggest next?

We've had other reports of problems with the Lame mp3 encoder handling Chinese characters. It could be our implementation of it. I'll look into it.
