Flac 32 bits 176 kHz not supported
« on: May 13, 2016, 04:06:03 pm »

Hello,

I need to read Flac 32 bits 176 kHz in JRiver.
Using Asio drivers from my DAC, the opening process crashes at 3 seconds of buffering.
Disabling buffer memory size and Asio, the program offers to read at 32 bits 192 kHz, wich is not an acceptable solution for audiophiles.

This point is very important, as 32/176 is the format exclusively used by RM files from Guillaume Chalaron.
RM files are largely exposed in HiFi shows, latest was Munich High End 2016. They're part of succes for winners of best sound 2015 and 2016.
Professionals then use Foobar, not so "eye candy" than JRiver and JRemote.
Any chance for a quick implementation ?
Any roundabout or option I didn't find ?

Kind regards,
David

What DAC do you have? Does it support 32 bits and 176 kHz? Few support 32 bit and not all support 176 kHz.

32 bits for audio samples is really pretty pointless anyway.

I have a few dacs in test, all support 32 bit 176 kHz.
At the moment, I use TEAC UD 503. Perfectly works in 32/176 with Foobar.
That's why I think the limitation is related to JRiver.

Thanks for your help.

32-bit FLAC files are not supported by the official FLAC reference decoder (libflac) we use, sorry.

^
But I guess you could use Foobar to convert them to WAV and then have MC play those...
