AUTOMATED LOGGING OF LIBRARY STATISTICS

I would like to have a feature, where I can look up, how many songs I have in my library.
This should be presented as a historical chart, e.g., a weekly or monthly, quarterly scale to see, how the library has changed over the time.

Further feature:
if there is an increase or decrease in the number of songs, then show, which files were added, or deleted in this time period.

Reason for it:
sometimes I have the feeling that I have lost some songs due to syncronization between my NAS and different computers.
So I would like to check the historical development of my inventory.

If you turn off the "fix broken links" feature of auto-import, files will never go missing from MC's database without leaving a broken link behind that will tell you the file is missing.  It doesn't address your request, but I wanted to offer it as an FYI in the meanwhile.

Store metadata for ISOs (SACD, DVD) in sidecar files for portability/recovery. Allow removal of selected layers of ISOs (stereo, multichannel, languages, shorts, etc) from library.

Facebook Video integration.

Better search such as Artist:Genesis. Instead of finding Genesis in every album, artist, song, metadata, bitrate (not really), etc.

Ditto on previous post: the ability to separate the playing now  playlist according to a specified field.

Ditto on Set the ordering via sorting.  Then right click on the zone name in Playing Now and select "update order".

Huge Ditto on Continuous playing of all songs by an artist, not just the current album. If JRiver can list all the songs in album/date order, we should be able to press play and have it work through the lot without having to create a playlist.

An Option to Automatically save EQ and Parametric EQ by file and by album - i.e., save last settings to the file or album. They are all mastered differently, and I have to adjust the sound every so often, even when I go back and play an album or file later on. Should be easy to implement.

Ditto on I can't tell you what I'd give for a simple album inventory list with/without album artwork.  it should be more obvious how to do that.

Ability to transcode video to h.265 by "Convert Format" menu

The ability to grab the top of the JRiver window and drag it wherever you want, like to another monitor. At this time you have to click the little "Not Full Screen" icon, then move it.

Ditto on 64-bit support:
It made sense for MC to be 32-bit when madvr was limited to 32-bit, but now madvr has a 64-bit version, and with a memory intensive program like madvr this has added a very significant speed boost.  This was actually the feature that finally sent me back to just using MPC-HC again.

The ability to more easily control deinterlacing in the MadVR video player. It's ludacris that many other players can do this quite easily, and it seems very hidden and not so functional in MC21.

Ditto on Artist perform a song in different constellations. E.g. Eric Burdon, Animals, Eric Burdon & The Animals...

Ditto on Volume leveling for gizmo

I'd really like MC22 to pick up IPC streams faster. I have to wait 5-20 seconds for a YouTube or Facebook video to hear the sound.

Ditto on Car Radio Playlist - Standard View.

Ditto on for any tag field I would like to be able to individually select and retrieve that metadata from the internet. So if I only want to get the 'Year' and not pollute all my other metadata, I could request that specific tag only.

That's my 2 cents for now :-)

I would like to request a feature to be able to import EQ values from txt and/or csv files
There are 3 columns in the text file to be uploaded into Parametric EQ:
Frequency | Gain | Q

Currently it is extremely cumbersome to manually type all these values for all channels

Thank you

In addition to the current aspect ratio and zoom controls for full screen video playback MC could benefit from the ability to adjust the x and y axis separately.

I'd love to be able to shift MC from the Windows HTPC to a Synology NAS. With their package management system, and JR's development for linux underway... how far are we from centralizing MC-based home media like most other home network needs on the NAS?

Other then that, I only wish for a more informative "wait icon"...the endlessly circling mouse is just unnerving when you started, eg,  moving a significant amount of files (say from a local disk to a NAS). It turns MC into variant of the halting problem.

Suggestion: define a certain quiet period (like 5 seconds maybe?) after that start sending regular info lines (once every other second maybe?) to the status bar. Any "background task" in MC should behave like this: updating ones podcasts, file move, audio analysis, etc.

Paying customer since version 6 -- excellent product! Keep up the good work.

Most important upgrade:

**** Make an interface that is attractive and easy to use so that my wife likes it, or at least uses it ****
Tough challenge but some of your competitors have gone further down that road. Maybe bring some women into the design team?

Other bits and pieces, mostly on use rather than functionality, some are more about keeping your competitive advantage, though others are where you are at a competitive disadvantage:
*) easy and big switch between "users", eg my use mode, my wife's use mode etc (including which Library is loaded)
*) make switching between Libraries possible from JRemote on iphone etc - I have three major libraries I want to keep separate
*) make upgrade process seamless (one click) so all Libraries, playlists etc are preserved, it was a pain last time from MC20 to MC21
*) make it more robust, currently falls over a lot
*) make it wake up more quickly - after I havent used it for some time it takes a long time to wake up and process the (eg play) request, and sometimes it just falls over
*) easy to use with multi room wireless speakers, eg Sonos (some of these come with their own software that is not so good)
*) solid iphone interface, ie to update music selection on iphone - currently I use an awkward three step process to get the music I want from my MC system onto my iphone

... think that's it, keep up the great work

... think that's it, otherwise keep up the good work

My main feature requests would be:
1.         64 bit support
2.         Linked audio files do not currently retrieve the full set of linked files if the first of the linked files is not picked up in a smart playlist.
This should be sorted out in the next release.

Not sure why this thread is the defacto thread for MC21 feature requests. I searched sticky threads for "feature requests" (including the FAQ!), and found nothing. Perhaps there should be a sticky thread for MC feature requests?

In any case, it's time for an "open in a new tab" feature for list items.

So you right click a list item, for example an audio track, and select "Locate" -> "Album". At the moment a new list opens in the same tab, and you can always use the back button to get your original list - a great feature - but, sometimes I want that new list to hang around, while I continue processing the original list. As in, I'm not ready to process the new list - and yes, I could make a playlist from the new list, but it's not going to be around for long, I just need to preview it for potential items that might be related to the original list.

In this case, I'd like to be able to right click a list item, select "Locate" -> ctrl-click "Album" and have the new list open in a new tab. Now my original list remains in the current tab, and the new list opens in a new tab.

Thanks for considering this..

Here's a few features I had proposed a long time ago:

1. Find and Replace is a blanket operation; in fact it should allow for skipping certain instances.

2.  Ability to access Vimeo and similar sites from Theater View.

3. It would be great if we could mark specific pairs of files to no longer appear together in smartlists (duplicates etc).

1. Is possible, since find and replace can use expressions.  Start a specific thread?
2. Not sure about this one, but it would be cool.  Maybe there is a workaround already?
3. This is usually pretty easy.  Start a specific thread?

I am still waiting for an easy to use A-B playback repeat function. This has been a standard feature on every CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player for years.

Support for Xy-VsSubfilter and other external subtitle renderers - some subtitle groups develop using this expecting it to be the standard (especially in the anime community) and as such a lot of effects/animations they use won't work without it.  Much like MadVR and LAV it's basically become a standard in the community.

After finding a solution for ArtistSort (library fields, keyword: artist_sort= or artistsort=), I still miss the feature to display "Artist" while sort by "ArtistSort".
For example:
Artist: Peter Gabriel
ArtistSort: Gabriel, Peter
Result should be: the entry appears in the alphabetical list at "G", but on the screen as "Peter Gabriel"
iTunes and Apple Music (iPhone) can do this, Squeezebox/VortexBox can do this. It would be nice if JRiver MC 22 could do this too.

Give more flexibility when doing "Get Movie and TV Info"

The whole documentation on their api is here: http://docs.themoviedb.apiary.io/

Here are some examples of requests one can make with a valid api_key:
(I applied online and got mine instantly. I deleted the ID from what follows.)

* Find a movie given the IMDb ID (here: tt1846472, for "Après mai" = "Something in the Air"):
In English (by default):
https://api.themoviedb.org/3/find/tt1846472?external_source=imdb_id&api_key=###
In French:
https://api.themoviedb.org/3/find/tt1846472?external_source=imdb_id&language=fr&api_key=###

* Show the entry of a movie given the TMDB ID (here: 122089)
http://api.themoviedb.org/3/movie/122089?api_key=###

* Find available covers:
In English (must be by default too):
https://api.themoviedb.org/3/movie/122089/images?language=en&include_image_language=en,null&api_key=###
In French:
https://api.themoviedb.org/3/movie/122089/images?language=fr&include_image_language=fr&api_key=###

* Show one cover (here for "Après mai"):
In English (by default):
http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/w500/2z6v8zoSOV1FXnLYt7rivWH2bBz.jpg&api_key=###
In French:
http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/w500/kKhSsQuXqpyUWVoRV2da0r7BNf5.jpg&api_key=###

In all that I find very interesting the possibility to get some information in another language (in my case, French):
- movie title
- movie description
- genres
- cover

So MC could offer the option to set the language for the query.
By default it would be in English.
But it could be changed to another language, say, French.
Then all the information and the cover would be retrieved in French if available.

It would also be good that MC stores the TMDB ID.

And if possible, that it could use it when doing a query.
This would make sure that the information retrieved is about the proper movie.

Alternatively, it would be great if a query could be made using the IMDbID.
This would ensure that one gets the proper information when doing a "Get Movie and TV Info" (for several movies at once).

  • Catalog Blu-ray's - insert the disc-> press catalog button (Get automatic Movie & TV Info)-> Done
  • I sometime think about having an backup functionality about the content-> that you can archive=backup a Ripped Blu-Ray disc and you have a flag in the Metadata like A=Archive. Because It's all static content you must backup only the delta.
  • Metadata as from AllMusic including lyrics
  • Being not dependend on AnyDVD
  • Ripping SACD or Audio Blu-Ray's like a CD including all the metadata without manually using particles.

Ripping SACD or Audio Blu-Ray's like a CD including all the metadata without manually using particles.

You can't rip an SACD without using an old PS3 running a specific firmware version. Also to rip audio Blu-Ray discs you'll probably need something like DVD Audio Extractor or MakeMKV.

Being not dependend on AnyDVD

Nothing can be done about this.

True, but Manfred mentioned not being dependant on AnyDVD and I'm assuming any other external program to bypass copy protection in MC, which isn't possible. ;)

remote control of various dsp parameters, like center channel volume and rear speaker delay.
i want to have remote control configuration like the preamp that jriver replaced
Second this but, for me, add function to toggle volume leveling and adaptive volume on/off in JRemote.     I am tired of having to remote into MC client with my laptop to change these settings.

I missed the chance to post in the Competitive disadvantages thread, but as plans for MC22 include Improved access to metadata
and Metadata retrieval, I'd say here that MC offers only basic scraping functionality compare to other programs, both for audio and video entries. Almost all video cataloguers, pro and free, offer scraping from IMDB and other sources; and audio taggers offer access to freedb, discogs etc. Some of these functions may be achievable with plugins, but I'd very much like to see them integrated in MC.

Also, the scraping function should allow for selective replacement of specific fields with content from new sources or exclusion from overwriting. Or at least a "Fill Only Empty Fields" option when updating from a new source.

And when updating a bunch of titles, the ones that fail to match shouldn't be skipped; a dialog box should allow us to inspect and correct them on the fly.

In the first build of MC22:
NEW: Holding control while clicking any of the "Locate" menu choices will open them in a new tab.

When searching cover art (Get cover art -> Get from internet), add possibility to edit album name in the search results, just like in movie/tv series info search box. That's handy especially in multi disc box sets and remastered albums, for example: "Doors - Waiting for the sun" will get more hits than: "Doors - Waiting for the sun (Expanded & Remastered super deluxe edition disc 1)"

Please,
add the "external source" for streaming audio from the ASIO souncard digital input, and auto switching to source's sample rate
(asynchronously and synchronously).
The goal is to route external device's stream into MC sound processing chain (upsampling, resampling, dithering, upmixing/downmixing, VST-processing, etc.).
Now i should use AudioVero AcourateConvolver for such simple routing...
(while the all the other duties performs MC).

I know it's already been said a thousand times but MC has to update it's UI (i.e. The Pretty Face initiative).  I've been using MC sync MC12 and it's looked exactly the same.  That's a travesty, not something to hang your hat on.  I'm like everyone else in that MC has no rival when it comes to music and managing your music collection but I think the other parts good use some attention.  I'd love to be able to use MC for my DVR tuner, photos & video but those other options are not quite there.  What I've learned is that when it comes to media center functionality no one software program does it all great.  MC does music better than anyone but UI and tuner, photos, video, & the 10ft tall theater interface is not usable to my family.

I've worked in IT for almost 20 yrs so I can figure out most things with any software but I want my family to be able to use this solution and right now the only thing they can do is playback music but if they happen to click on the wrong button or link, they'll never be able to get back to music to continue to play what they've heard.  With that here's my wish list of what I'd like to see with MC22

1. Better/Simpler/Pretty UI - What I mean by Better UI includes the following
  a.  A feature that can switch the UI between what I'm calling "Standard View" vs "Advanced View".  The Standard View is the more simple UI that anyone including my wife and kids can use to navigate and playback media.  Std View should have simple controls, and not a lot of extra clutter that they can click on and get into trouble.  They should be able to view music by genre, or newest music or last imported (standard smart playlists).  The "Advance View" is basically the view you see now.  The ability to click on anything and tag and change zones and turn MC into anything you like.  Most people don't need to see the Advanced View after they've done their initial setup.  I think the MC team really needs to hire a UI consultant to get them through this Pretty UI implementation.
  b.  As part of a better UI is revamping the 10ft tall Theater View.  I love the concept of the 10ft tall view for Home theater use because I have my HTTP connected to my big screen but navigating and using the Theater View is not intuitive and not easy at all.  Also the Gizmo integration with Theater View is not intuitive either and could use some rework.  Getting into sub-menus in the Theater view and then going back into higher level menus needs work. there has to be a better way to say listen to music and manage playing music and adding new songs to currently Playing playlist.  It's just clunky and not all that usable.
2.  Better music tagging.  I don't know about most people but I have a lot of Reggae in my music library and MC rarely gets the correct song or album tag correctly.  It's like that for most music I try to tag.  I've been reserve to the fact that I have to manually enter my music tags manually when I add new music unless it's something I've bought from Amazon MP3.  I'll live with that but it would be nice if I had confidence that my music would be tagged without me having to enter in everything.
3. Either make some updates to Gizmo or integrate it fully with JRemote and get rid of it.  I was one of the first people to use Gizmo. In fact I think my early on recommendations for MC feature rec's is what eventually became Gizmo, as I was one of the first to say MC needed a Android app and what functionality that app should have.  I do love how fast Gizmo performs but it lacks a lot of functionality that JRemote has.  Also don't get me started on the price of JRemote. I've never paid $10 for any Android app before in my life. that app is not worth $10 but I bought it anyway because I'm all in on the MC experience.  Why does the app costs 60% of the price to do an early upgrade the entire MC server software to MC22 right now.  That's ridiculous.  Bring the price of JRemote down to like $3.99/$4.99.
  a.  Right now you can't create Playlists on the fly with Gizmo and Gizmo doesn't show you enough of the song info while it's playing.  You can do these things with JRemote which goes back to my reasoning that Gizmo should be merged with JRemote or update Gizmo to make it better.
  b.  there's also a glitch with Gizmo that if you try to Cast while playing a song through Gizmo it will continue to play the song locally on the device an still connect to your Chromecast.
  c.  It's hard to exit out of Theater Remote mode on Gizmo.  I don't know why it's like that but once your in Theater REmote mode, it's hard to operate it.  that is a great feature but it's just not done right. Once again, I think a UI update in that part would fix the problem.
  d.  I'd also like to see an option setting added to Gizmo to clear out cached songs.  I shouldn't have to go into the App menu and clear out cache with clears out all my settings for the app.
  3.  The out of the box setup for what Gizmo looks like when you connect from default settings is not usable.  You have to do a ton of custom settings within MC to get Gizmo to display a usable interface, especially if you have a large music library.

I've made this post long enough.  If the MC dev team wants to see a good Video/Movie UI for Home Theater viewing, please look at how Plex has implemented their Theater View on any platform but especially for Windows 10 Universal app, Xbox & Fire TV.  I would love to see a native MC app for FireTV. It's based on Android so it would be that far fetched to get that done.  The FireTV MC app should be features focused on playback vs managing your library.  Leave that on the desktop/server side of MC.

I test Enterprise Applications for a living for a large defense contractor. I'd be more than willing to offer free testing to get in on early beta or to give feedback for like a end-user round-table.

Are you talking about the tags that MC looks up when you rip a CD?  If you don't think MC's database is good enough, use another ripping program that talks to FreeDB or MusicBrainz.  Generally speaking those two databases are pretty good.  I only have to edit maybe 1 in 20 CDs I rip and those are usually minor edits.  Something like the Year being wrong.  DBPoweramp is supposed to have a very refined and "correct" database.  Of course you have to pay for it, but if this kind of thing is important to you, it may be worth it.

I look at ripping CDs as a cataloging operation.  I try to audit as much of the data as I can as I do the rips.  It's the easiest time to compare what I see on screen with what I see on the cover of the CD.  None of the free databases have it all correct; not even close.  As evidenced by my 1 in 20 needing an edit of some sort.

improved version of house band to directly integrate with Amazon Echo
Better and tunable play doctor. Now when I use if on old songs from the 80's (e.g. nina simone) I get Rives calibrati0on files mixed in.
I am interested in your new scaler. improved upscale to 96 from 24/16 would be very interesting.

is it possible that an automatic occasional refresh A) deletes the folder after the information inside is deleted from the player and B) folders are scanned occasionally for new metadata?

hallo

next try:
I have a lot of audio files. Most of them I like. Some of them are, let me say not sooo good ;-)
Is there a posibility to hide these items ( songs, albums , genre) with a remote like EOS?
There must be also a switch to make these items temporary visible again.

You can do this with Views.  Start a new topic and someone will show you how.

I really need this feature. It will make my life a lot easier,

Search Through Playlists (at the tree pane) discarding those that don't fit the search query

Thanks for considering

I am a Mac user and don't know if this is different to the Windows world. Also I am still using MC 20 and don't know if things have changed plus I haven't read all the feature requests here, so this one might have been mentioned before.

It's about searching and adding information to video files. I do have problems with it (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=105439.0), but here want to ask for a feature request.

I very much like the xml-file sidecar idea to add information about films. And I always use the "Get Movie & TV info..." thing to add information about the films I have. It would be great if it would be possible to manually define or add web-sites here where MC is looking for information. I understand that this only makes sense when web sites have certain rules to provide information, so they can be found. I am asking this, as web sites come in different languages. I know that I can define the web site for e. g. wikipedia within the options section, but it doesn't work for all web sites MC is looking up, like themoviedb.org site. Plus one always has to open the options section to make changes there.

Thanks for that!

Hi,

Should be interesting to have the possibility to drive different DAC's in order to perform a multiamplification, of course with the capability to filter them indipendently
performing a digital crossover

best regards

The MC22 list of new features includes Play Album from Memory, which I assume means loading the whole album at once, rather than just one track. Hopefully that will include the ability to use more than 1 GB of memory, hopefully user settable. Also, it would be nice to have the option to decompress a file before or after loading it. The old method of decompressing on playback was much more efficient in memory use and worked better for large tracks. I understand that some think that decompressing uses CPU cycles and is therefore undesirable. But, the cycles used are minimal and having the compressed file in memory allows more of the album to fit into memory. So, an option to do either would be nice.  Thanks.

Option to include remote control profiles with zone switching.  It may be necessary in some cases to use different remote configurations for streaming video source, and different profiles for streaming music, and another control profile for local sources.  This could allow users to map remote button presses to functions uniformly instead of having a remote button mapped to different hot key combos for hulu, Spotify, Netflix, local media, etc.  If this doesn't make sense, say so, and I'll try to elaborate a little more.

Small but very helpful enhancement idea:

MC automatically finds and assigns cover art pretty well, saving lots of time digging around. BUT sometimes the image assigned to a track/album is not so good. My library is too large to check each new image when bulk assigned, so I periodically select a chunk of tracks (say, the 'K' tracks), run Get From Internet, and see if anything better is discovered.

This also reveals cover images that are wrong (or worse). The Get Cover Art dialog lets me keep the current library image, or choose from other images it has located. BUT... my huge library has plenty of tracks where no valid cover image is found by MC, and not likely to be found.

Enhancement Request: What I really need is one more Get Cover Art dialog option: REMOVE the current library image from the track, and possibly DELETE it from the library (some of them are trash). Once the track reverts to no image, some other time I can easily locate such tracks and spend some time coming up with proper images.

Lacking an in-dialog option to REMOVE, I have to write down the track name, finish Get Cover Art which might have several more pages of tracks to review, then go back, find the track, and manually delete the Cover Art. Not a big deal, but sweeter would be a REMOVE button in the Get Cover Art dialog, right when I'm staring at the unwanted image.

PS: The menu option that invokes Get Cover Art is called Get From Internet. Same thing of course, but consistency helps newbies. How about "Get Cover Art From Internet..."?

Hi,

I have just ordered MC22. Thanks for the best music player on the planet. But the best software always needs improvements.

My improvements suggestions are the following:
- save album cover (cover art) in music folder as "cover.jpg" (it is the standard for mp3 players, do it also with ogg vorbis files)
- embed the album cover (cover art) in the ogg vorbis meta data, too
- an option for uploading own music to own Google Play Music Library
- an option for downloading bought music from own Google Play Music Library
- some improvements on music visualization
- for the image browser I would like to sort my pictures not only by date, but also by folder name and by year like Picase

(1) DSP section (audio) for transcoded videos.
It's still not possible to process video audio through the DSP section when being played via DLNA.
So I'd like to be able to have a DSP section for transcoded video, please.

(2) "Total Recall" for Theater View.
a) When you restart a PC the position where you have been the last time when navigating in Theater View is lost. There shall be an option that allows to permanently keep the last position of Theater View and open it exactly where it has been left the last time - every time! - even after a restart of the PC.

b) There shall be additional MCWS commands to store and recall Theater View positions. Currently there is no good way to get back to a specific position in Theater View. There shall be a programmatical way to save the current position (using a user specified ID / Name) and to recall this position at any time later again. This way it becomes programmatically possible to store and recall "favorite" positions in Theater View from third party code.

Parental functions - to lock out children from inappropriate content!
There shall be functions to prevent easy access to adult content (or other stuff not suited for young humans).
Maybe a password protection system? Or specific user accounts (also with passwords) that allow custom access to the library.

Features to "virtually merge" multipart videos.
There might be video files in the library which are splitted into multiple parts like so:

My Last Birthday 1of8.mp4
My Last Birthday 2of8.mp4
...
My Last Birthday 8of8.mp4

So I would like to see features which allow to "virtually" merge these parts so that they appear as ONE movie in Theater View although they are STILL multiple files on your file system. When being played back this single item shall be called "My Last Birthday" and shall play all parts as seamless as that's possible without any gaps.

Add full native IPv6 support to MC.
Currently MC does not support IPv6 at all. But times are changing and the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is in full swing.
There are more and more providers only giving IPv6 stacks / addresses to their customers. For these cases (which will increase in the future) a direct IPv6 support in MC would be very useful!

Add a notification service to MC (which lives next to MCWS).
MCWS can do a lot - but there are no notifications coming from MC when the played file changes or when a library scan is complete etc.
Please add separate (configurable) UDP ports where listeners can suscribe to and listen for specific change events - that is much better and much more efficient than to poll information!
