Support: Please advise why the last few builds including 21.0.83 for Mac everytime I click on the JRiver Icon to start... it was like I just downloaded the version for the first time and it goes through the startup process. This did not happen 3 versions ago. Is this compatible with the latest MacBook Pro OSX recent upgrade?
Also, is there anything different from this build vs the last that would make it crash which this one did after an hour or so?

Thanks, Steven

Could you be more specific about what is happening when you start Media Center?

There were numerous changes, but I could not tell you what caused the crash without knowing more. If you have the crash report, that should help a lot.

This same thing has happened on the last 3 builds. But prior to that I did download the latest Mac OSX operating system upgrade. So when I power on my MacBook Pro (which I only use for audio) and click on the JRiver icon in my dock.. it goes through the initial step of AGREE to the terms every single time after I power down and up again. So its just like it didn't know I already downloaded it successfully the first time.

It's going to do that every time Media Center updates, so I'm not sure if auto-update was running in the background and it was doing this because it wanted to install the update. However, if it's doing this even when it's not updating, then is sounds like the Media Center icon in the dock might be have gotten messed up and runs the .dmg instead of the app. What you could try is deleting the Media Center icon from the dock and then running Media Center from the Applications folder and see if that works, then just set it to keep the new Media Center icon in the dock.

That picture clearly shows the DMG file name as the title.  So that "agree/disagree" dialog is DEFINITELY coming from opening the MC DMG file.

I would advise you to remove the MC shortcut from the dock completely.  Then try launching it only from the Applications folder.  Make sure of the file you are launching from Applications.  Make sure it is the APP and not the DMG.

Once you've successfully launched the app, then you can do "keep in dock" to pin it to the dock for future use.

If you still can't get this to work, I would start by removing the dock icon *and* the app from Applications.  Then manually open the DMG and drag the MC app to Applications.  Finally, eject the DMG and try launching MC from Applications.

Good luck.

Brian: EXCELLENT that worked. Now my next problem. The library is completely blank now. This part is not an issue since I can easily upload. The big problem is that I have a "highly rated" song list that is in the iPad JRemote app. The only way I can access this is by closing down JRiver app and clicking on the .83 and then it comes back. So how can I just "bookmark" or save this list first. And then I can reload my whole library again the proper way.

Hope this makes sense. And will my settings carry over correctly ?

Having a tiny bit of a hard time following you, but let's try this:

If you can get the library to load that has your ratings and stuff, load it.  Then make a backup of that library with File > Library > Backup library .  When it brings up the dialog box for where to put the backup, but it somewhere really obvious like on the Desktop.

Then, close that library down and open the "regular" version of MC which you are saying is blank.  Next, restore the backup you just made into this library.  File > Library > Restore Library .  Grab that same backup file from the Desktop.  This should populate your "blank" library with everything from your other library.

I hope that works.

If I wasn't clear enough. All my settings etc are still entact on the dmg icon .83 . So how can I carry those over to the JRiver app .83  and additionally most importantly on the JRiver iPad remote copy my HIGHLY RATED songs to the new JRiver

Here's what I do;

1. Close Media Center 21 completely.

2. Download the .DMG file from the release topic.

3. Open the .DMG file.

4. Drag Media Center 21 into the Applications folder, replacing/overriding the existing copy when it prompts.

As Awesome Donkey said above, with a slight addition:

Do Step 4 from the window that opened when you opened the DMG.  You should see the MC icon and the Applications icon in that window.  Just drag MC over top of the Applications folder icon and drop it.  You should then see the prompt to overwrite it and then the progress window as it copies over.

5.  Close that window and eject the mounted DMG from the left hand bar of Finder.

Thank you both for the feedback. Very Much appreciated!
Additional help:
How do I backup and edit my "highly rated" song list that is on my iPad Remote app on my MacBook?

Anything you see in JRemote is actually inside of MC itself.  JRemote is just a remote control.  Playlists should be in the Playlists tree on the left.

I actually don't see it on the left hand side of the pane. Where could it be hiding ?

I did a little research and figured it out.  Highly Rated is a category defined inside the JRemote views.  You can see all of these at:

Tools > Options > Media Network > Advanced > Customize views for JRemote...

In this case, Highly Rated is just a view definition that says "all audio rated 4 stars or higher".  It's a smartlist sort of.   So there's really nothing to save or to edit.  It's just an ongoing list of all 4 and 5 star songs.

Excellent. Thank you once again Brian.
Next few issues.

JREMOTE APP
on the iPad JRemote starting JRiver App and it says connected to MacBook Pro
I always have to switch the ZONES to >this devicd to player.

How can the APP automatically know. It did this no problem in JRiver 20..  so I know it's some tweak.

Also, how do I completely remove properly ALL JRiver old version 20 and 21 all the builds.

Thank you.

I don't use JRemote.  Maybe post in the Remotes forum and maybe someone there can help.

For version 21 builds, you can just delete the DMG files.  If you have any extra Media Center apps in /Applications you should remove those too.  I don't think you should have any of those though.

For version 20, there is probably a Media Center 20 in /Applications.  You can remove that.  There are likely library (database) files left over from MC20 also.  But you should be cautious about removing these, as it's possible that some of your album art might be in these folders.  The folders in question are:

~/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 20/

I left that directory alone on my system.  I didn't see any good reason to remove it and it was pretty small.

Thanks Brian will do.  Another tweak. In the tool>options>audio>device setting under the buffering I have set at 1000 milli and underneath it says "hardware default" recommended if I change that to "maximum" power of two.. what will that do.. ?

It would also be great to read somewhere the optimum settings for my Auralic Vega DAC with a MacBook Pro dedicated somewhere.

Thank you.

Software buffering is there to help insure against skipping.  At 500 mS I get almost no skips.  At 750, it's essentially none (a few get through every now and then).  I didn't really notice a difference between 750 and 1000.

Hardware buffering should just be left at the default unless you have some problems.

The "optimum" settings for these are really just whatever works to keep your system from skipping.  As far as I know any way.  Perhaps there's something more to it that I don't know about.  But I don't think so.
