DSD Playback Problems (Schiit Loki)
« on: June 07, 2016, 01:08:27 pm »

I'm running Windows 10 with a Schiit Loki and Bifrost in different zones using Zone Switch.  This setup has been working great with JRiver for ages.  I recently had my mobo replaced so I needed to reinstall Windows, drivers etc. and I cannot for the life of me get sound out of the Loki.  I assume I'm missing something obvious, but have read and reread the Schiit DSD setup guide and every JRiver forum post I can find on this subject to no avail.

My Loki JRiver configuration:

Audio Device:  Schiit Audio DSD Device [WASAPI}
Device Settings:  Open device for exclusive access (checked)
                        Disable event style (checked)
                        Maximize device volume during playback (checked)
                        Play a little silence on DoP stop (checked)
Bitdepth:  24-bit integer
Buffering:  100 milliseconds

DSP Studio:  DSD in DoP format (requires DSD capable DAC) Also tried "None".  My understanding is this setting is unnecessary as I'm only using Loki for DSD

Bitstreaming:  Yes (DSD)
Prebuffering: 6 seconds
Play silence at startup:  None

Volume mode: Disabled Volume (but tried all possibilities here).

in Windows playback devices I've tried both "Speakers Schiit Audio DSD Device" and "JRiver Media Center 21"

Bifrost playback works great and the Loki DAC LEDs light up when playing DSD so it's getting data and the JRiver audio path lights up blue and indicates no changes are being made, but I get absolutely no sound.  I've tried swapping cables to eliminate a hardware issue.  Uninstalled and reinstalled Schiit drivers etc.

What am I missing?

Your settings look ok to me. It may be worth trying without Zone Switch, and also trying a different USB port (particularly if you are currently using a USB3 port)
