MC21 won't play video files [Solved]

OK, some other stuff:

I've already rebooted the Mac twice tonight.  I've also restarted the pre-pro (power off, all the way off not just stand-by).
I've played video through this system from MC21 dozens of times.  The previous problem was no multi-channel, but that was a pre-pro problem, now fixed.
I just tried and succeeded in play music, so audio files are not a problem.
The external drive is connected via USB.  What is NAS?

I looked into the settings you list above.  They have to do with NTSC vs. PAL and frame rate.  I'm going to leave that switched to "off" for now.  Video worked previously and I don't want to change that at this time, introducing another variable.  I may try bit streaming.  My pre-pro is supposed to have great decoding, so it will be interesting to see if I can tell if MC21 sounds different than the pre-pro.

Note that all video files were ripped to .mkv with MakeMKV.

Thanks for the details.  NAS means Network Attached Storage, which means a file server on your network that serves files to clients.  USB storage is much less problematic so this is good.  :)

Try using another player to play your videos as a test.  VLC is a good universal player that should play just about anything.

I'm sorta stumped. Maybe try re-installing MC21?

Hopefully someone else will step in with better ideas.

Brian.

JimH:
On Windows, at least, USB 3.0 drives have problems when plugged into USB 2.0 ports.

I'll double check, but I'm pretty sure that my Mac has USB 3 outputs.  The external drive is USB 2.0/3.0.  Hopefully that isn't the problem.

No networks in our house.  I have enough trouble keeping individual computers running.  The last thing I need is a server.

I'll look into VLC.  I guess I'll also reinstall MC21.

JimH:
That is a USB 3.0 drive.
