I'm still on MC 9.0.180 (I have three perfectly running systems right now, and I don't take the chance to go into the beta race again any time soon), and I sometimes need to move files from one disk to another (they do get filled up, you know...). But I can't seem to find a way to do that without deleting the files from the library, copying them with Windows Explorer and then re-importing them. Or is there a way to move/copy full folders? Right now all the files are collected in one directory, the one I choose to move/copy to, and not their original subdirecotries under the one I move/copy to, which would be the logical way when moving/copying full folders/albums.

I've had the same problem. I don't know it my solution is the best, but i do the following:

After moving the files i use the 'rename files from properties' - function to get back the folder-structure.

Find\Replace is your friend.

If you want to move your music from C:\ to D:\ then just find C:\ and replace it with D:\.

That'll do it.

Also, if you "rename files from folders," and change the location of the files, MC will actually *move* the files.

I thought Find\Replace only applied to the info inside the library itself.  You mean it will physically move the files, too?  Wow. Learn something new every day, though, I'm not too sure I like that feature--it's kind of dangerous in the wrong hands.

Just make sure you only have the field you're interested in checked when you use it, and you shouldn't have any problems.

But you could look at it this way. Let's say you had a file by Dire Straits that for some reason you had tagged and named as Bob Dylan (true story - don't ask ).

With the Artist and Filename boxes checked, you could Find: Bob Dylan and Replace With: Dire Straits.

Then it would fix the Artist tag and rename the file (even moving it if applicable) all in one blow.


Alternatively, you can use the My Computer node in MC to move folders around and preserve the folder structure and library integrity. I just find Find\Replace to be faster. My Computer takes too long to display the files in the folders.

How do you make sure that find/replace doesn't find other, proper instances of the term you're "finding"?  Does the find/replace command only work on the folder or branch that you're parked on?

It only runs on the file(s) you have selected when you use the Find\Replace Tool.
