Locate -> On Disk (external) does not work.
« on: June 12, 2016, 08:12:43 pm »

Since some versions (now 21.0.88) Locate--> On Disk (external) no longer works. Nothing happens.
Cover Art -> Add from file: works and I have access by the file manager to the directory where the file is stored.
It's the same in Debian Testing Xfce and Cinnamon

What is the path name of the file you are trying to locate?

Can you try some without spaces and or quotes (double and single)?

it does not matter whether with or without space.  Both does not work:

This:
/media/Musik/(Multiple Artists)/Blue Notables Vol.12 _ Blue Note's Six Vital Organs - Home Of The Hammond/Larry Young - Blue Notables Vol.12 _ Blue Note's Six Vital Organs - Home Of The Hammond - 06 - Plaza De Toros.flac

or this
/media/Musik/Albert Collins/Frostbite/Albert Collins - Frostbite - 08 - Snowed In.flac

or This:
/media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/larry_carlton_and_robben_ford-unplugged-cd-flac-2013/08-larry_carlton_and_robben_ford-rio_samba.flac

Nothing is working

Interesting.
I found the issue where the space or single quote breaks it but without those it works as expected.

It's most likely that xdg-open is broken on your system.
You can test it from a command line.

xdg-open http://www.jriver.com

Xfce is a fresh install of yesterday (without ~ / directory)
xdg-open http://www.jriver.com
---> works (opens firefox) (file)
xdg-open/media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/Cyndi_Lauper-The_Essential_Cyndi_Lauper-CD-FLAC-2003-PERFECT/01-cyndi_lauper-girls_just_want_to_have_fun.flac
---> works to (opens VLC After mime-type mapping: -. Opens MC21)  (file)

I tried the same thing in a VM (Stretch / Mate) -----> the same poor result

How about:

xdg-open file:///media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/larry_carlton_and_robben_ford-unplugged-cd-flac-2013/
or
xdg-open file://media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/larry_carlton_and_robben_ford-unplugged-cd-flac-2013/

~$ xdg-open file:///media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/rory_gallagher-stage_struck-remastered-cd-2000
this directory does not exist ---> rename  :-[
but this works:
xdg-open file:///media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/rory_gallagher-stage_struck-remastered-cd-2000

This did not work:
~$ xdg-open file:////media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal
[1] 20407
bash: Texas: Kommando nicht gefunden.
hans@sparkyxfce:~$ xdg-open: unexpected argument 'Lewis'
Try 'xdg-open --help' for more information.

I made a log file in the VM (Mate / Stretch)

I can only say that it worked until recently. And I can also say that I will not rename 60,000 files

/// ---> works
// --->  dont't work
//// ----> works  ?
~$ xdg-open /media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/rory_gallagher-stage_struck-remastered-cd-2000  --> works

success:
I have the directory
/ Otis Clay - Truth Is / renamed to
/ Otis_Clay _-_ Truth_Is /
have newly imported directory ---> MC opens the directory

But that is no solution:

My default location is:
[Artist] / [Album]
and the  Filemane - rule is:
[Artist] - [Album] - [Track #] - [Name]

When the album name or artist name consists of more than one word , I had to rename the real name:

instead Truth Is -> Truth_Is

For sure there are problems with spaces in the current build. We are working on that right now so don't rename stuff!

I'm pretty certain this should work:

xdg-open 'file://media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal'
or
xdg-open 'file:///media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal'

should work.

xdg-open 'file:///media/HD753LJ/Import/Neu/Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal'

only with three slashes works

with two slashes: I get this:
Quote
The address "file: // media / HD753LJ / Import / New / Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal" could not be opened.
Failed to get information for file "/ HD753LJ / Import / New / Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal": file or directory not found.

It must be three or more slashes.
Seven slashes works as well ? ? ? ?

Correction:
It appears that only two slashes do not work.
One slash works
And that too:
xdg-open '/ media / HD753LJ / Import / New / Sharon Lewis & Texas Fire - The Real Deal'

Ok. Thanks.
I think it was doing 3 slashes already but not quoting. Should be a build later today...
