Native OSX Version
« on: May 18, 2016, 03:07:00 am »

Still hoping for a Native OSX Version. That's why I just ordered my upgrade. It is really not expensive for the use I get out of this software. There is hardly another application that I personally use more often than Media Center.

Keep the good work going!

Still hoping for a Native OSX Version.

MC for Mac already is a native OS X application.

Yes, technically, to some degree.  But it doesn't appear to be a Cocoa app so simple things like being able to use control-a/e/k while editing text in tags doesn't work which is a real headache!

Just make requests for MC's hotkey commands to function like a native Mac app by default. :)

That may be, but it still has a windows-like interface. Why are the minimize and full screen icons in the upper right instead of the upper left? Why does the x quit the program rather than simply close the window? Why is there an Exit, but not a close option under the file menu? Etc. I love the program, but every time I use it I am reminded that it is a windows program adapted to Mac. I suspect that quite a number of these holdovers could be fixed fairly easily, and I keep waiting for that to happen. At this point, I don't need any more bells and whistles, and think a release that focused solely on providing the users with a complete Mac interface experience would be most welcome!

I'd try using another skin, like Modern Cards.

Reskinning doesn't fix the fact that there is no "Preferences" menu item under the Media Center menu list in the menu bar but only a Quit, that the x quits out of the program rather than just closing the window, etc.

I expect that the Mac version should look and feel like a Mac program right "out of the box", and it doesn't. So, thanks for your reply, but it is non-responsive to the issue I raised.

regards,
Doug

You just need to choose windows or mac version for modern skin and all the 3 controls are Left or right.

Good news. Just one problem: There is no »modern« skin nor a skin »Modern cards«.

After you find Modern Cards and try it, you might want to try Fusion X3 and Metro X:

Both are a bit more Mac like than others. I'm still stuck on Black and Blue Too (HC SB).  It doesn't look anything like a Mac program, but it's nice and dark and easy to read at the same time. :)

Haha this is not a native Cocoa app. You can tell by how the menu works and how much CPU usage it takes up. I believe it's running in a WineSkin.

Nope, it's a native OS X application. MC uses it's own system to draw it's windows, menus, skins and everything else - that's why it doesn't use native OS X menus, controls, etc. Whether or not anything can be done to improve this, is up to the development team.

Here's a couple topics on this subject:

As Awesome Donkey said, it is a native application.  No Wine, no emulation of any kind.

I've found MC 21 CPU usage about the same as Audirvana at just a few %, and significantly less than Roon.

JRiver is a Windows program ported to Mac. Yea, yea, "technically" it's a Mac program but it sure doesn't look like one. Don't get me wrong I love this program but really don't see why the interface can't be redesigned to comply with Mac standards. There are a lot of programs out there that offer both Windows and Mac versions of their programs. They don't seem to have a problem designing their programs for both platforms.

With regard to the skins that will provide a more "Mac Like" interface they just don't exist. I've searched modern, modern cards, modern JRiver and nothing shows up.  Perhaps a link to the skins in question could be provided.
