Volume goes to 0 when I click play then can't be adjusted.
« on: June 24, 2016, 06:02:28 pm »

I've been happily playing my music via MC21 and Apple TV for a few months now.  Well, perhaps 'happily' is too strong a word since I always lose settings and have to re-jig every time I start up the system if I want if to play thru Apple.
However, I've now it a problem which I cannot get around - as soon as I click 'play', volume slider goes to 0 and cannot be moved up; neither can I adjust volume via keystrokes.
Re-install required maybe?

TIA

Did you try powering everything down and back up?  Including network hardware.

Thanks, I will try that but, just out of interest, why would network hardware cause a problem with a Mac setting which has nothing to do with the network?

Apple TV is a network device.

I didn't think any of the Airports or AppleTV products would work with MC at all actually.

Yeah, but it has no direct bearing on any of the controls with MC.

Anyhoo, tried powering everything off and no difference.
I've updated to latest 21.
Youtube and Spotify stream fine, just MC21 frustrating me.

Try MC's audio settings again.

Try MC's audio settings again.

Tried it - no joy.
It's nothing to do with network as even with ATV off and attempting to play via internal speakers, MC doesn't want to know.
Am doing a complete MC re-install and will see where that takes me.

How was MC talking to AppleTV?  DLNA devices show up in the Now Playing area.  Audio devices have to be configured specifically in the Options > Audio section.

It has nothing to to with Apple TV, since I've now taken that out of the loop and am simply attempting to play via line-out.
I've re-installed, but no go. Every other media software I've tried (now playing Vox) works without fail.
Something has annoyed MC and it now won't play ball.

What audio device are you using in MC?  I'm wondering about WASAPI, ASIO, or Direct Sound.

I've looked through all of the audio options I know and I can't find one that would force volume to zero.  Are you saying that the volume slider is set to zero when you press play?

Yep, volume is about 75% when MC starts then slides back to 0 when I press play.
I'm using Default Core Audio, which I've always used.

Wow, that's crazy.  I'm just kind of guessing here, but I suggest:

A.  Set your volume type to Internal.  Tools > Options > Audio > Volume > Volume Mode > (select internal)
If it's set to system this might have something to do with it.  But I'm not sure.

B.  Pick your audio device by it's explicit name and not the default audio device.  Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device > (choose device by name) .  This really shouldn't matter I don't think, it's just a "best practices" kind of thing.

C.  Check your audio device options and make sure that Integer mode is turned off, and the other options look normal.  Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device > Device Settings

Good luck.  Let us know how it goes.
